A day of street photography with Alejandra [Eng/Esp]

Alejandra is a friend I've known for about four years. We became close because of our shared interest in photography. At the time, she didn't have her own camera, so I sometimes lent her mine so she could practice until she got her own. After a couple of years, she finally got one.

Whenever we meet, it's always for something related to photography, as was the case this time. I mentioned before that I love taking photos on the street, and she has seen them, so in a way it made me feel pretty good that she wanted me to teach her how I do it. We went to a place I always go to, because you can be away from people, but being so close to a main avenue allows you to see everything that's going on and capture it in photos.

Alejandra es una amiga a la cual llevo conociendo desde hace unos 4 años más o menos, nuestro acercamiento desde un principio fue por las fotografías de igual manera, en esa ocasión ella no contaba con cámara propia y yo en algunas ocasiones terminé prestándole la mía, así ella iba practicando para cuando tuviera la suya propia y luego de un par de años la obtuvo.

Siempre que nos reunimos es para algo referente a la fotografía, como lo fue en esta ocasión. Ya mencioné antes que amo hacer fotos en la calle y ella las ha visto, entonces de cierta forma me hacía sentir bastante bien que quería que le enseñara mi forma de hacerlo. Nos ubicamos en un lugar al que siempre voy, ya que se puede estar alejados de las personas, pero al estar tan cercano de una avenida principal, te permite ver todo lo que ocurre y capturarlo en las fotos.

We took a couple of laps around this place I'm telling you about. I gave him some advice, such as compositions, the rule of three, how to best position your subject (even though this is complicated if you take photos of people on the street without having a clear idea of what you're going to do), how to take advantage of certain elements around you to make your photos more creative, among other things.

It's funny because conversations with Alejandra always end up taking a deep turn. We talk about anything and everything, so we never get bored, whether it's about how things have been going, what we're doing, when our next sessions are, and more. So while we're taking pictures, we're talking and talking.

Estuvimos dando un par de vueltas por este sitio que les comento. Yo le estuve dando algunos consejos, como las composiciones, la regla de tres, cómo era la mejor forma de ubicar a tu sujeto (aun cuando esto es complicado si haces fotos a personas en la calle sin tener una idea clara de lo que harás), como aprovechar ciertos elementos que te rodean para dar más creatividad a las fotografías, entre otras cosas más.

Es gracioso porque las pláticas con Alejandra siempre terminan tomando un lado profundo, hablamos de cualquier cosa, por lo cual nunca nos terminamos aburriendo, ya sea de cómo nos ha ido, qué estamos haciendo, cuándo tenemos las siguientes sesiones y más, por lo que mientras hacemos fotografías estamos hablando y hablando.
