A day of conversation with the author of a book [Eng/Esp]

Happy day to all, dear friends of the community. How are you today? I feel pretty good, and I hope you do too. My friend Mariale invited me to a university event she was attending. It was a talk with an author whose book several students had designed a different cover for, and I decided to go, since it's always a good time to talk to an author. So, I hope you enjoy the post.

Feliz día para todos, queridos amigos de la comunidad. ¿Cómo se encuentran el día de hoy? Yo me siento bastante bien y espero que ustedes también lo estén. Mi amiga Mariale me invitó a una actividad de la universidad que ella tenía, se trataba de una charla con un escritor de un libro al cual varios estudiantes le hicieron una portada distinta para el mismo y yo decidí aceptar el ir, ya que nunca es mal momento para conversar con el escritor de un libro, así que, espero que disfruten de la publicación.

The meeting place was the Carmelo Fernández Museum, where I have taken several photographs of the large number of works on display, and I may share some new ones with you on a future occasion. We arrived relatively early; there were already a few other students waiting. There was a short introduction, and then the talk began.

Obviously, it is always important to know a little about the author, their book, their inspiration, and everything that leads to a wealth of ideas, and this was no exception. The author told us a little about it and spoke primarily about how he did not entirely like the cover designed by the publisher, but due to lack of time, he had to accept it.

El lugar de encuentro fue el Museo Carmelo Fernández, lugar donde he hecho diversas fotografías de la gran cantidad de obras que se terminan mostrando y posiblemente les comparta nuevas en una próxima ocasión. Aquí llegamos relativamente temprano; ya había algunos otros estudiantes esperando. Hubo una pequeña presentación y de esa manera dio inicio la charla.

Evidentemente, lo importante siempre es conocer un poco del autor, su libro, su inspiración y todo aquello que desemboca en un cumulo de ideas y esta no fue la excepción, el autor nos contó un poco de ello y habló primordialmente del cómo la portada que hizo la editorial no le gustó del todo, pero por falta de tiempo tuvo que aceptar.

Apart from that, he allowed us to ask him some questions, one of which was when he decided to write. Although it may seem like a simple question, the answer is always interesting, because inspiration exists in all of us. What sets us apart is the moment we decide to carry out everything we have in our minds, and that little speech certainly served as motivation for us.

The talk also included the story of how his first book ended up winning a contest, attracting the attention of other people and thus learning a little more about the real and fictional stories that were floating around in the author's mind, which also teaches us how any idea we have, as long as we know how to polish it, can work for those who want to appreciate it.

Aparte de ello, nos permitió hacer algunas preguntas y una de ellas fue en qué momento decidió escribir y aunque parezca una pregunta sencilla, la respuesta siempre tiene algo de interesante y es que, la inspiración siempre existe en todos nosotros, lo que nos diferencia es el momento en que decidimos llevar a cabo todo aquello que tenemos en nuestra mente y ese pequeño discurso sin duda sirvió de motivación para nosotros mismos.

En la charla se apreció también la historia de cómo su primer libro terminó ganando un concurso, atrayendo la atención de otras personas y conociendo así un poco más de las historias reales y otras más ficticias que rondaban en la mente del autor, lo cual también nos enseña el cómo cualquier idea que tengamos mientras la sepamos pulir puede funcionar en aquellos que desean apreciarlo.

After the talk, various covers were presented (which were part of the activity that the students had to do), which focused on trying to capture the true essence of the book, because, to be honest, the cover chosen by the publisher looks rather poor and seems to be simply a format that they use for everything.

This activity undoubtedly encouraged the students' creativity, showing how putting a little more love into projects can lead to great things that everyone can be happy with. I personally saw several of the covers, which are the ones I am sharing in the photographs, and honestly, without exception, they are all better than the publisher's original cover. I think the new ones make much more sense, even though several are a little abstract or very literal to the name of the book, which is “Cuentos de papelera” (Tales from the Trash Can).

Luego de la charla, se presentaron diversas portadas (las cuales eran parte de la actividad que debían realizar los alumnos), las cuales estaban centradas en intentar capturar la verdadera esencia del libro, porque siendo muy honestos, la portada que decidió la editorial tiene un aspecto bastante pobre y parece ser simplemente un formato que utilizan para todo.

Esta actividad sin duda fomentó la creatividad de los estudiantes, donde se aprecia el cómo colocando un poco más de cariño a los proyectos se pueden crear grandes cosas en las cuales todos puedan terminar contentos. Yo personalmente vi varias de las portadas y también son las que comparto en las fotografías y honestamente todas sin excepción son mejores que la portada original de la editorial, considero que las nuevas tienen mucho más sentido, a pesar de que varias son un poco abstractas o muy literales al nombre del libro que es “Cuentos de papelera” .

After appreciating the covers and the talk, there was a break, so to speak, where everyone could look at the books, talk to the author, and many bought the book because they genuinely have very interesting stories and it is also a nice way to appreciate the authors of our own country, which only reinforces our love for our land.

This talk was very motivational, gave us lots of advice, and reminded us how important it is to fight for our dreams regardless of our age, but rather our dedication to what we want to achieve. Luego de apreciar las portadas y la charla hubo un momento de receso por llamarle de alguna manera, aquí todos podían observar los libros, hablar con el autor y muchos compraron el libro porque genuinamente tienen unas historias muy interesantes y también es una linda forma de apreciar a los autores de nuestro propio país, lo cual solo reivindica nuestro amor por nuestra tierra.

Esta charla fue muy motivacional, nos dio muchos consejos y nos recordó lo importante que es luchar por nuestros sueños sin importar nuestra edad, sino nuestra dedicación a lo que queramos conseguir, sin duda, un excelente día.
