A day at a skateboarding event, with friends, dogs, and competitors [Eng/Esp]

To be completely honest, it's been a difficult and stressful few days. I had the misfortune of dropping my phone out of my pocket, cracking the screen a little, and a couple of hours later, my camera lens stopped working, so I needed to take a break and disconnect a little, get out and not be cooped up at home. So I decided to go with some friends to the skatepark where there was going to be an event. They were going to compete, and it's always interesting to watch them, so that's what I want to talk to you about today.

Siendo muy sincero, han sido unos días complicados y estresantes, tuve la mala suerte de que mi teléfono se cayera de mi bolsillo y se reventó un poco el vidrio de la pantalla y un par de horas más tarde el lente de mi cámara dejó de funcionar, por lo que necesitaba tener un descanso y desconectarme un poco, salir y no estar encerrado en casa, por eso decidí ir con unos amigos al skatepark donde habría un evento, iban a competir y siempre es interesante verlos, por lo que, es de lo que les quiero hablar el día de hoy.

It's funny because the event was supposed to start at 10 a.m., so we decided to go a little later to give ourselves some leeway, and we arrived at around 11 a.m., but they were just getting things set up. However, all the participants were going from one place to another practicing, having fun, and making new friends, as there were people from other states in the country participating.

Since it didn't look like it was going to start anytime soon, we decided to go shopping at a nearby mall. We had to wait in line for a while, and when we got back to the skatepark, they were already holding some competitions, but we missed one with people on bikes, and honestly, I was excited to see that. But what can I say? Sometimes impatience leads to things like this happening, and we missed it. However, we were there for the rest of the competitions.

Es gracioso porque el evento decía que comenzaba a las 10 de la mañana, por lo que decidimos ir un poco más tarde para dar un margen de tiempo y estuvimos llegando a las 11 y algo, pero apenas estaban acomodando las cosas; eso sí, todos los participantes iban de un lugar a otro practicando, divirtiéndose y haciendo nuevos amigos, ya que había participación de personas de otros estados del país.

Como parecía que todavía no iba a empezar, decidimos ir a comprar unas cosas a un centro comercial bastante cerca, tuvimos que hacer una cola que nos llevó un poco de tiempo y cuando volvimos al skatepark ya estaban haciendo ciertas competiciones, pero, nos perdimos una que era de aquellos que iban en bicicleta y honestamente yo estaba emocionado por ver eso, pero qué les digo, a veces por impacientes ocurren este tipo de cosas y nos lo perdimos, pero estuvimos presente en el resto de las competiciones.

Near the skatepark there is also a police station, which has a dog that guards the place. They left him near the skatepark so he could get some fresh air, and although he is one of those dogs that can intimidate you because of his size, he was actually quite affectionate and let anyone who approached him pet him. I took the opportunity to take some pictures of him when he was nearby, but I must say that he definitely liked to move around the place, because he went from one place to another, and then they came back to get him and bring him back inside so he wouldn't get stressed out.

The competitions weren't the only thing going on there; there were food, drink, candy, and many other things, so you could spend the whole day there without having to think about so many things to do. You had everything you needed right there, and as if that weren't enough, after the main event ended, there was a concert with some guest bands. I would say that most of them were rock bands, but I can't say for sure, but that's what it seemed like to me.

Cerca del skatepark también hay una estación de policías, los cuales tienen un perro que custodia el lugar y lo dejaron cerca del skatepark para que tuviese un poco de aire libre y aunque es uno de esos perros que te puede intimidar por su tamaño, realmente era bastante cariñoso y se dejaba hacer cariño de cualquier persona que se acercara, aproveché de hacerle algunas fotografías cuando estuvo cerca, pero debo decir que sin duda le gustaba moverse por todo el sitio, porque iba de un lugar a otro y luego regresaron a buscarlo y hacerle entrar nuevamente para que no se estresara.

Las competencias no eran lo único presente en el lugar; había puestos de comida, bebida, dulces y muchas cosas más, por lo que podías pasar todo el día allí sin necesidad de pensar en tantas cosas que hacer, sino que tenías mucha a la mano y, como si fuese poco, luego de que finalizara el evento principal, habría un concierto con algunas bandas invitadas. Diría que la mayoría eran de rock, pero no les sabría decir con seguridad, pero fue lo que me pareció a mí.

We spent several hours there, watching the competitors, chatting, and eating a few things until we decided we'd had enough and decided to leave. As I mentioned at the beginning, I haven't had the best days this past week, but, to be honest, it's always worth taking the time to be with the people you love and escape a little from everything that can make you feel bad in your daily life. So, as a recommendation, always remember that you deserve some time to enjoy yourself; not everything is based on pending responsibilities.

Estuvimos varias horas allí, viendo a los competidores, conversando y comiendo algunas cosas hasta que consideramos que ya había sido suficiente para nosotros y decidimos irnos. Como bien mencionaba al principio, no he tenido los mejores días esta última semana, pero, siendo muy honesto, siempre vale la pena tomarse el tiempo para estar con las personas que quieres y escapar un poco de todo lo que te puede hacer sentir mal en tu día a día, por lo que, como recomendación, siempre recuerden que se merecen un tiempo para disfrutar; no todo se basa en las responsabilidades pendientes.
