The Iconic Structure of Mumbai - VT Station

I seemed to have missed this one. 2 months back when I was in Mumbai, I had clicked these pictures to make a blog on the Mumbai's most iconic structure. It's a landmark in the city and an entry point to millions of people. It is the Victoria Terminus Station. More known as the VT station. There are 2 station terminals here, one is the local suburban and the other one is outstation one. At any given time of the day or night this place is crowded. During night time there are special lighting effects which gives a very good look to the place. The railway network is amazing here and you can reach to out to any part of Mumbai from this station. Mumbai City has 3 railway lines, Central, Western and Harbor and from this particular station there is a connection to all the 3 lines, either you change or you can go directly.

To give you a brief history of this iconic structure. It was built during the British time in 1878 and got completed over a period of 10 years. It has the high Victorian gothic design based on late medieval Italian models. Mumbai was the major port of India in those times and a port is very nearby to this place so having a port and a station close to each other served the trade purpose in those times.

To make it convenient for the tourist to click pictures there is a standing balcony made from where you can view this building and click pictures. This was made very recently around 7 to 8 years back.

Now let's get inside and see how it looks from the inside. In the last decade there has been a good amount of restoration work which makes this place look better now, else for many years there was hardly any attention paid to this building. Only the exteriors were maintained the interiors were ignored. But now that's also being taken care of, which is a good thing.

You will see that there are some beam supports given

The pillars have some intricate carvings

With the lighting effect it looks very nice

And finally, a self-click

In 2008 when there was a terrorist attack on Mumbai city there were casualties in this place also as some of the terrorists were crossing from this road and the police had their check post here. The Police in the pursuit of blocking the terrorist from going ahead of this road some of them were killed and some were injured. Those terrorists got on to the station and had started shooting blindly killing and injuring quite a few civilians. It was one of the saddest days in the history of my city. An attack that no one could have imagined.

With all of that these structures stand tall to say their stories. How did you find this iconic structure of my city?

Thank you for visiting my blog. 👼🏻👼🏻💖💖🌹🌺🌸

One of my lifelong dreams is to visit India. It is a place that attracts my attention for many reasons. In fact, life took me to live for a while in Trinidad and Tobago, where the Hindu culture is predominant and I was fascinated by the architecture, the customs, the rotti!
Seeing this kind of stories leads me to fulfill in the distance that dream I have.
I was fascinated from beginning to end by your post.
