Finding Time for Myself./ Знайти час для себе. (En/Ua)

Sometimes I feel angry at everything around me. When it hurts, when I sit in my car where anger burns everything from the inside out, like a dry summer wind. In moments like these, I just want to press a "clear all" button and leave for another city. Preferably somewhere far away. To stay where nobody knows me. Where nobody will ask me anything. And where I won't run into a single familiar face: students, neighbors, or colleagues.

It is easier to be yourself among people who don't know you. To walk down streets I’ve never walked before, past houses I’ve never seen. Even if there aren't many people around, it makes it easier to think about why it is so hard for me to exist among the people I know. They say it is therapeutic to go out among strangers who won't ask you any questions. To become invisible for a while, like a fresh start. People... They weigh down my space with their conversations, as if they are hanging someone else's heavy coats, complete with labels, right in my room.

I hide behind changes, hide in my own world where sly coworkers cannot hurt me, where household chores do not weigh me down, and where no one demands that I finish what I started or clean up every day. There, I find my own imperfect comfort in my pieces of memory.

Once, I heard a certain truth: "If you have lost something — do not search. Find it!" And that is how I found myself.

In the summer, we went to Brody. It is a cozy, intimate town with a great history of its own. I love this town, though in truth, nothing ties me to it. We ran a few errands and, as a reward, ate ice cream by the walls of the Brody synagogue, which itself looks like frozen memory, silently keeping its secrets. Although the roof is already destroyed, the walls still hold fast to the foundation.

And then, I fulfilled another dream — to find and see the pedagogical college where my grandmother studied. It is an incredible building, emerald from all the overgrown greenery. Passersby talked about their everyday things as they walked past. But for me, it was a house where teachers learn, where that very mission to teach is charged, to be carried throughout a lifetime. My grandmother worked as a primary school teacher for 40 years.

Thanks to the canopy of leaves shifting in the breeze, the facade seems to breathe. I wonder what the view looks like from the inside, looking out the windows? It was one of those invisible journeys where you take off the costume of being "grown-up and obligated" for a few hours, and simply breathe along with those emerald leaves on the ancient building.
