Hoy recuerdo los días en que sacabámos del cuaderno la improvisada terjeta dibujada y coloreada con torpeza con el mensaje cliché dictado por la maestra.

Entonces juntabamos lo ahorrado en nuestras arcas, de lo reunido para la merienda y el recreo, una locha, medio, un real y a veces por fortuna algunos bolívares.

Eso nos daba para celebrarte con un jabón camay y un frasquito de tabú... el perfume de mi tio Ramón.. una baratija de fuerte olor pero que apoyaba el gesto... inocentes criaturas venidas de ti, sentíamos la necesidad del obsequio y nos frustamos aún cuando no cumplimos ni con el abrazo y el beso en la mejilla... creo que lo único que puede compensar tu sacrificio y dedicación por tus hijos es ser fieles en el amor eterno hacia tí y que el olvido sea execrado de nuestro vínculo.

Today I remember the days when we used to take out of the notebook the improvised card clumsily drawn and colored with the cliché message dictated by the teacher.

Then we would put together what we had saved in our coffers, from what we had gathered for snack and recreation, a locha, a half, a real and sometimes fortunately some bolivars.

That gave us enough to celebrate you with a camay soap and a little bottle of taboo... the perfume of my uncle Ramon... a trinket with a strong smell but that supported the gesture... innocent creatures that came from you, we felt the need of the gift and we were frustrated even when we did not comply with the hug and the kiss on the cheek... I think the only thing that can make up for your sacrifice and dedication for your children is to be faithful in eternal love for you and that oblivion is execrated from our bond.
