Views Over Chiemsee

Today whilst driving back from Italy we decided to stop off at the great Chiemsee viewing point. It is directly alongside the lake and accessible from the motorway, so it doesn't require any detour if you are just passing through.

You can access it from the direction Salzburg towards Bayern. It is also a rest station from the motorway and you can grab some food there if you want, although we never have.

The views over the lake are fantastic and my photos don't really do it justice. You can see usually what looks like hundreds of the unique sailing boats that sail here plus plenty of wildlife.

Here I tried to make some panoramic shots of some feathered friends that we met. They were coming close to us and we could take some photos.

There were lots of ducks and swans.

The kids were excited to see so many birds so close too.

There are some islands in the lake and I think I caught the largest one here whilst trying to capture this sailboat as it was the closest one.

We had a great time there stretching our legs and enjoying the views and it is worth stopping even for a short while if you are passing by. Chiemsee is also a popular place for tourists and I recommend also visiting some of the local towns. Prien am Chiemsee was particulary nice to visit that we saw a week or so ago.

That place looks great, Steve! I had to open Google Maps and check the exact location to not miss it next time... When I was in Munich, I went toward Wienna and I missed it as it's in the other direction... I hope I will go in that way next summer again, but not miss this spot!

It is a gem of a stop and pretty unique rest stop. I pinned it on Pinemapple. I for sure recommend to stop if you pass by in the right direction.

Wow you could actually see the swans and duck so freely in a lake just by the motorway!

Here in Singapore, you probably gotta head to the zoo to see these little creatures 😅

The panoramic views weren't bad. If you had a better lens, it could have come out much more better than you anticipated. It's a beautiful view still. Seeing so many birds nesting and chilling in one place. Did you stop to take the shots or was the vehicle in motion?

Yes, it is a pretty unique spot and worth to take advantage of. I hope to take my better camera next time :)

I loved Chiemsee when I was around almost 10 years ago. You can check my travelogues of this area on my map (green pins with the motorcycle symbol).
