A walk around a German Shopping Center

avatar

Hello Walkers,

It's a new month and a new walk. This time I have gone for a walk around an out-of-town shopping center and taken some photos to show you. Quite a bit has changed in the last two years and this is the first time I've been there for a while as I generally don't go shopping but had some errands to run this time.

After parking the car in the huge car park facing the motorway, we headed into the shopping center. Going on Saturday used to be a big no-no for me because it was always totally rammed and I'm not keen on huge crowds of people and so much busyness. This is one reason that I moved out to the countryside near the middle of nowhere!

Upon entering we were confronted with this big "Life is a wheel of fortune". You can spin the wheel and see where it lands. Some of the options available are "Geduld" - patience, "Mut" - courage, "Kraft" - strength and "Liebe" - love.

Comming to this shopping center is a pleasure in comparison to some city center ones that you can go to because the car park is huge, well laid out and there are so many lifts and stairs for easy access to everywhere. You don't have to wait around. Oh, and the parking is free.

As we enter you can see that it is practically empty! It is already lunchtime and there aren't too many people about. We go first to the food court area and there are a few more people there, but not too many. A typical "local" offering is Best Worscht in Town. I think this means Best Sausage in Town. They do love their sausages here.

I order a veggie curry that I had been craving for a while. My wife decided to help me with the naan bread, so I needed to order a second one!

There are many vacant spots that have been filled with activities for people to do. Here is one filled with a table football.

My wife went to look at some shops with my daughter so I took my son to the two playgrounds. The first one above is an airplane that he got bored of quite quickly as it was for younger kids. We needed to walk to the other side of the shopping center to the other one now.

The lower one was more fun for him as you need to climb quite high and then slide down. This kept him busy for a while. There were also some electronic gadgets to play with and some pay-to-use rides.

As I was waiting, I took this photo which I had planned to enter the Hive reflections contest on. It is another boarded-up shop with black mirror doors. You can't see the black mirror too well in the photo, but it had a cool reflective effect.

After my son got bored playing, we continued on and found another former shop converted into a car display with real cars and some model cars.

If I was a few years younger, I could picture myself driving them. lol. We were finally re-united with the ladies to our party and decided to head home.

We walked back to the car park and I also took a photo of the view. We were not so high up, therefore it was not so impressive as it can be. I realised looking back now that I only ordered some food and didn't actually visit any of the shops there. lol.

Thanks for reading.

I love sausages too. Food is more like the best motivation to visit the shopping mall. I'm glad you had a great time mate. Enjoy the rest of your week.

I remember thinking one time over the Christmas holiday when I was going into work that I would avoid the route through the City Centre as it would be full of families shopping in the sales. Instead I would take the out of town ring road route.

I forgot that this passed a retail park and I got caught up in the hour long queue of cars waiting to get into the car park, also to go shopping in the sales!

It's interesting how people seem to be using these centres as destinations for outings, as much for practical shopping. As you say, there are lots of entertainments and food outlets.

Nice reflections photograph.

It really caught my attention the huge reduction in shops and more on free family entertainment that was available. I am keen to see if the trend would continue.

There is nothing worse than being caught up in traffic, this center would have car queues back onto the motorway to get in on a Saturday. Ironically, next door they have now built a huge amazon distribution centre!

looks an impressive mall, I like you try to avoid them on weekends for the same reason I really do not like crowded places

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)

Haha, I find it always so interesting how many steps we make during a "shopping walk". The Shopping Mals in Germany look the same as in Austria !ALIVE

Hmmm, I'm wondering where this is? Sausage would be 'Wurst' in German, Worscht would probably be a different dialect, or maybe just the brand? Interesting...
Funny though, because I haven't eaten meat in a long time but the thought of German curry Wurst still makes my mouth water hahaha.
Looks like a great place to just wander around and go window shopping.
Have a great weekend!

It is just a popular brand here although most people would just buy from a market stall. Germany is not so vegan friendly as other countries. I was happy they had a nice vegetarian indian place here. Have a great weekend too! !CTP !ALIVE

No, Germans are huge meat eaters haha.
I grew up there and I still have nightmares about the Oktoberfests, Frühschoppen, etc...I couldn't stand it! But my whole family loved it, so I had to go along with it all. I mean, who on earth gets up at 6 in the morning to drink beer and eat lots of meat?
Just crazy haha.

I think that a lot of shopping is moving to the online arena; I don’t know how this is actually going to affect us in future, because although it’s convenient, it’s not half as much fun as actually going shopping. Shopping should be enshrined as a behavior of necessity. LoL.
Lovely post ❤️🤗💕🤗🥂

I used to order a lot online but after a while, its also a pain to repack and send things back. I think there will always be a place for shopping.

Thanks for your comment. !ALIVE !LOL

It seems like a lot of the shops failed? Hopefully things will remain sustainable there, it looks like a good place to take your family.

Yes, a lot of failed shops but I'm sure things will start to rebound soon enough.

Free parking and playing fun hehe you have collected decent memories of this visit. Veggie and naan I thought only this word naan is pronounced in my language Urdu 😆 as this writer belongs to Pakistan hehe. Good to see the popularity of naan overall the whole hehe. Dreemport dropped me here.

The great thing was how fresh the Naan bread was! You cant beat a good naan bread even though I try to avoid bread usually, Naan is my weakness! 😆. Thank you for visiting via Dreemport. !ALIVE !CTP
