The impressive Cathedral of Lima

One of the main attractions in the historic center of Lima is undoubtedly its Cathedral, it is located in the Plaza Mayor in which is also the Government Palace of Peru. The building was built inspired by Renaissance / Neoclassical architecture and its construction was completed in 1538, meaning that it is only a few years away from its 500th anniversary.

This place usually summons hundreds of catholic parishioners who make long lines to enter and practice their doctrines, on this occasion it was closed so we did not have the privilege of entering to observe the interiors and record them photographically for all of you, but I believe that the exteriors are equally majestic so I decided to take many pictures of the details.

The first thing that strikes the eye at first glance are the two large towers that rise gloriously in the sky of Lima, one of them houses the great bell tower, in fact we were lucky enough to hear it. It is also observed in these columns two balconies, two clocks which are not in operation and two sculptures of figures that frankly we could not recognize, but they are undoubtedly of a Catholic nature.

The central part of this construction is also very striking, which has many details and figures of saints or angels (I could count fifteen in the photo), also very noticeable what appear to be bricks on the walls, the truth I do not know if it is decorative or if they are real bricks, but they give much elegance and prestige, in fact you can notice shades of different colors which I consider is very good for the view.

Approaching a little closer to the facade, we can see striking details such as the gigantic black doors that look imposing, even have mini doors on the sides, obviously it is not necessary to open a door so large to leave or enter a single person, they only open them when there are masses or large events and it is required that hundreds of people enter. In addition, we can appreciate the four main sculptures or at least are the largest of the outside of the cathedral, are positioned on the sides of the main door and are guarded by two large columns.

Towards the left side of the cathedral, there is an annexed chapel that is part of the same construction but it is independent in space, that is to say, internally it is divided or it has an individual room/space in which they usually carry out acts or events of smaller importance. This chapel has a door with the same design as the entrances of the main façade, it seems to be made of wood with iron or steel rivets; it also has four columns and a small balcony.

In the following image, we can observe the dimension towards the back of this Cathedral, or in other words the depth, as you can see, it is quite wide, in fact it has a side entrance, but without a doubt it is much wider than the front of this building.

I would have loved to go in and show you the inside of this wonderful construction, but maybe that will be in the future, for now we can only appreciate this great piece of architecture from the outside. It was a pleasure to share. Greetings!

You Rockkk!!! 👊😎📸❤️

It is true that for being 500 years old the details are very good, the more we see the photos the more impressed we are, we were really lucky to witness such a structure. Thanks for your visit!😇

I am impressed with the size of this cathedral, what a barbarian! I don't think I have ever seen such a big temple, in fact it looks like a castle to me. You have surprised me many times with your posts, I feel that if one day I visit Peru it will be more interesting than I expected... Great pictures brothers!.

In this country there are many imposing buildings, you can tell that from the 15th century they did not skimp with the construction of important sites and did them very well; and yes, it looks like a castle. Greetings!

There are many large-scale buildings here, and I believe that in this country they have taken great care to leave a good architectural legacy for future generations.

Inside it must be majestic, usually in these religious sites they take great care to be excellent and impressive to the eye, I imagine there must be exquisite paintings and sculptures, maybe we can enter one day. Greetings!

If it looks so impressive from the outside I imagine it must be beautiful on the inside.
Very beautiful and imposing cathedral.

Cheers!

The truth is a beautiful building, to see it in person of course is better, but I wanted to share with the community these photos to know this great structure. Greetings!

How well preserved the structure is. It would be interesting for the locals to explain how they managed to keep the clocks, at the time, to keep telling the time correctly. It is a complicated system. It would be a great success to get them going again and hear those loud chimes that once echoed in that place. Greetings @musicandreview

Saludos @musicandreview

If the clocks worked and were synchronized with the bell it would certainly raise the spectacle and the level of this cathedral, it would certainly be good to ask the locals until when they worked. It was a pleasure to share, greetings!
