Istanbul Imagined By Midjourney AI Application
The AI application called Midjourney has become popular these days. The application paints according to the prompts given. While I had such an opportunity, I used the application to create Istanbul landscape paintings. Since I liked the results, I decided to share them with you.
I love the Bosphorus shores of Istanbul the most. There are many historical buildings on the coast of the Bosphorus. Consular buildings and historical mansions offer a unique architectural diversity. The redbud trees blooming in spring increase the beauty of the shores. How did the artificial intelligence application imagine the villas by the Bosphorus?
Midjourney draws four images for each prompt. I liked two paintings it created according to the Bosphorus seaside mansions, groves, judas tree prompt. It is admirable that it painted the building in a color suitable for the redbud flowers.
I love sitting in one of the tea gardens and watching the fishing boats and seagulls. The pictures drawn by artificial intelligence following the fishing boats and seagulls, Bosphorus, landscape prompt did not look like the real Bosphorus views. For some reason, fishing boats are the kind used 40 years ago. And some of the seagulls look like swans.
I chose the second picture of fishing boats and seagulls because of the building in the background. The little birds on the sea are a little strange. Still, I liked the overall composition of the painting.
One place in Istanbul that attracts tourists is Istiklal street in Taksim. Tourists love this street so much that Turks are in the minority in the crowd. One of the most photographed elements of Istiklal Street is the historical tram. The application was able to portray Istiklal street realistically.
One of the indispensable stops of Istanbul trips is Hagia Sophia. The application created the following image based on the Hagi Sophia and clouds, detailed prompt.
At first glance, the paintings look like exact replicas of Hagia Sophia, but the app recreated the building. For example, it added small domes to the upper floor in the second alternative.
Citizens fishing on the Galata Bridge is frequently the subject of photographs because the view of the Eminönü region is awe-inspiring. The Galata tower and mosques in the background add an entirely different atmosphere to the environment. Although the application does not create a realistic picture of the fishermen on the bridge, I wanted to include it in my post because the fisherman caught my interest.
There are three bridges over the Bosphorus. The first of these bridges were built in 1974. It is the most photogenic. I asked the app to imagine what the Bosphorus bridge would look like in snowy and misty weather. I was delighted with the result. The bridge that Midjourney drew is different from the original. The desolation and harsh weather conditions added a dystopian atmosphere to the painting.
Mosques are one of the essential elements that make up the Istanbul landscape. I asked the app to show what the Blue Mosque looks like in the morning. For some reason, it painted the mosque as seen from the opposite shore.
In another alternative it produced for the Blue Mosque, it preferred to add seagulls to the landscape.
I also wanted the app to portray Istanbul similarly to his Iranian miniature paintings. Perspective is not used in these paintings. The application depicted Ottoman-era Istanbul through a western-style miniature painting. I liked the edge decorations the most in this picture.
And we come to the Maiden Tower pictures. The tower's history dates back to the Byzantine period and is located off the coast of the Uskudar district. Maiden Tower, built on the sea cliffs, has been restored several times. I asked the app to animate the view of the tower on a rainy day. The result satisfied me.
The Maiden's Tower has attracted people's attention throughout history. Legend has it that a seer tells the Byzantine king that a snake will bite his daughter before she turns 18. The Byzantine king builds the Maiden's Tower on the rocks off Üsküdar. He thinks that the tower in the middle of the sea will protect his daughter from snakes, but a snake coming out of the grape basket causes the death of the princess.
We have come to the end of our short Istanbul tour. I hope you like it.

The AI Image of the mosque looks rather iconic if you ask me. I think it felt more historical looking at it from the river point of view. They're all amazing images, imagine what these AIs are capable of doing..
Turkey is an iconic country, so I was expecting the images to be epic before I checked them and I wasn't disappointed.
I'll check this AI.
Midjourney is a fantastic app. I subscribed to the it in order to use freely.
