Overcoming Procrastination

Procrastination is a common challenge we sometimes face in our daily lives
Procrastination is the act of postponing activities or tasks that need to be done or accomplished. It can be a big barrier to our productivity and growth.

Procrastination was once my daily habit and part of my daily life. It was affecting me but I didn’t notice it. It really affected me in all areas of my life. Anytime I had things to do, I will postpone it all because of common excuses that were not even necessary.
I missed great opportunities all because of procrastination. Not until i sat down one day in a quiet environment and examined my life and that was when it dawned on me that i need to change and overcome this attitude.

I visited a counselor which gave me some hints and tips on how to overcome it and it has been of a help to me since that day and which i'll be sharing with you guys.

Procrastination sometimes is not done purposely but might be generated by some events which could be;

  • Poor management of time: When we don't manage our time well, it can lead to procrastination.
  • Lack of motivation
  • Distractions like social media
  • Sometimes, we procrastinate because we're afraid of failing an activity or task.
  • A desire to do things perfectly can also lead to procrastination, as we may postpone a task until we feel we have time to do it perfectly.
  • When a task looks hard or complex, it can be difficult to know where to start from, and this can lead to procrastination

Overcoming procrastination is not an easy one. You need to take it slowly and gently but here are some hints that could help;

  • Break the tasks into smaller steps. By doing this the task become easier to achieve and complete.
  • Set easy and achievable goals
  • Eliminate the distractions
  • Use a timer
  • Use a schedule
  • Prioritize the tasks and activities based on their importance
    I hope this would be of help to someone.
