When the city sleeps, 5:00 a.m./ Monomad Challenge [Eng/Esp]

Hello, friends of #blackandwhite. How are you?

I don't usually go out at dawn, for several reasons, including that it can be dangerous, but sometimes there's no other choice, and I take advantage of the opportunity to take photos, very discreetly.

This time, I went to the Vedado neighborhood in Havana, specifically Calle 23. The results? Come with me and I'll tell you all about it.

These snapshots 📸 are my submission for the #monomad challenge by @monochromes and @brumest.

I arrived at 5:00 a.m. and, to my surprise, there were still very few people on the street. Unlike other cities, where there is already a lot of activity at that time of day, here there was an almost deathly silence.

I wouldn't dare take my camera out at that time of night; I literally wouldn't make it home with it. So my phone was my best ally. It doesn't have the same quality, of course, but at least it manages to capture that everyday life that I love to show.

There are always people who look at me with a puzzled expression, wondering, "What is this guy doing taking pictures at this hour?" And I don't blame them, because it did look suspicious... there was literally not a soul on the street!

A bus would pass by from time to time, almost like a ghost, because there were so few that they seemed unreal.

Of course, I took precautions: I kept my phone safely tucked away and took photos very discreetly. I wasn't going to give myself away that easily. When the sky began to lighten, I knew the magic was fading. The daily routine of ordinary Cubans was beginning, the struggle, as we say. So I decided to finish the errand that had brought me to the city so early.

Hola, amigos de #blackandwhite. ¿Qué tal están?

No suelo salir de madrugada, hay varias razones, entre ellas que puede ser peligroso, pero a veces no queda otra y, con mucha discreción, aprovecho para hacer fotos.

Esta vez me tocó el barrio del Vedado, en La Habana, concretamente la calle 23. ¿Resultados? Acompáñenme y se los cuento.

Llegué a las 5:00 a. m. y, para mi sorpresa, todavía había muy pocas personas en la calle. A diferencia de otras ciudades, donde a esa hora ya hay mucho movimiento, aquí reinaba un silencio casi sepulcral.

Ni loco me atrevo a sacar la cámara a esas horas, literalmente no llegaría con ella a casa. Así que el teléfono fue mi mejor aliado. No tiene la misma calidad, claro, pero al menos logra captar esa cotidianidad que tanto me gusta mostrar.

Siempre hay gente que me mira con cara de 🤨 preguntándose: «¿Qué hace este tipo tomando fotos a esta hora?». Y no los culpo, porque parecía sospechoso... ¡literalmente no había ni un alma en la calle!

Pasaba algún autobús de vez en cuando, casi fantasma, porque había tan pocos que parecían irreales.

Por supuesto, tomé mis precauciones: el teléfono bien guardado y fotos con mucha discreción. No me iba a regalar así de fácil. Ya cuando el cielo empezó a aclarar, supe que la magia se estaba yendo. Comenzaba la rutina diaria del cubano de a pie, la lucha, como decimos nosotros. Entonces decidí terminar la gestión que me había llevado tan temprano a la ciudad.
