What Remains in Silence and Stone./ Monomad Challenge [Eng/Esp]

Greetings, friends of the community. Most people are afraid to enter cemeteries because they always associate them with fear, anguish, despair, and sadness. Others see it as an opportunity to connect with loved ones or, perhaps, with a spirit from whom they seek protection.

Saludos, amigos de la comunidad. A la mayoría de las personas les da miedo entrar en los cementerios porque siempre lo asocian con el temor, la angustia, la desesperación y la tristeza. Otros lo ven como una oportunidad para conectar con los seres queridos o, tal vez, con algún espíritu al que le piden protección.

Now, for street photographers like me, it's an invaluable opportunity to enjoy works of art, architectural details, and the atmosphere there—and to capture them in images, bringing them through the lens.

Ahora, para los fotógrafos callejeros como yo, es una oportunidad valiosísima para disfrutar de obras de arte, de detalles de la arquitectura y de la atmósfera que hay allí y traducirlos en imágenes, llevarlos al objetivo.

While it's true that not all cemeteries lend themselves to this, this particular one in Havana is a marvel of architectural design.

Aunque es cierto que no todos los cementerios se prestan a ello, este en particular de La Habana es una maravilla de obra arquitectónica.

I admit that it, too, has fallen into disrepair—just like much of the city—due to neglect and a lack of interest. The lack of financial resources has caused many tombs and mausoleums to suffer significant damage; that's why I've tried to document everything during my visit.

Reconozco que también ha sufrido su deterioro, al igual que gran parte de la ciudad, debido al abandono y la falta de interés. La falta de recursos económicos ha provocado que muchas tumbas o mausoleos se hayan visto muy afectados; por eso he tratado de documentarlo todo durante mi recorrido.

By the way, this is the last time I'll go there alone to take photos, because on my last outing I was nearly mugged by a man. Thankfully, I noticed him in time, and when I saw he had bad intentions, I took a photo of him from a distance; that seemed to stop him, and he went on his way. But later I found out that a gravedigger had been mugged to steal his phone.

Por cierto, esta es la última vez que voy solo a hacer fotos allí, porque en mi última salida por poco soy asaltado por un señor. Menos mal que me di cuenta a tiempo y cuando lo vi con malas intenciones, a la distancia le hice una foto; entonces, eso parece que lo detuvo y continuó su camino. Pero después me enteré de que habían asaltado a un sepulturero para robarle el teléfono.

These are the kinds of things that happen to street photographers when they're documenting everything they come across, especially in places like this, where there are hours of art and everything breathes history.

Son cosas que pasan, que suceden a los fotógrafos callejeros cuando están documentando todo lo que encuentran a su paso, sobre todo en lugares como este, donde hay horas de arte y todo respira historia.
