Thursday's Chronicle (Street Photography) / Monomad Challenge [Eng/Esp]

How are you, friends? Greetings from Havana.
I have to admit that, ever since turning 40, I tend to question everything. I'm constantly asking myself questions. It's exhausting, believe me. And the funny thing is that this habit becomes even stronger whenever I'm out photographing the city.

¿Cómo les va, amigos? Saludos desde La Habana.
Les cuento que, después de cumplir los 40 años, tiendo a replanteármelo todo. Vivo haciéndome preguntas. Es agotador, créanme. Y lo curioso es que esa costumbre se intensifica cuando salgo a hacer fotos por la ciudad.

Why did it end up deteriorating like this? How many stories have been lost within those walls? These are the kinds of questions that keep coming back to me.

¿Por qué llegó a deteriorarse así? ¿Cuántas historias habrán quedado atrapadas entre esas paredes? Son preguntas que aparecen una y otra vez.

I also find myself paying close attention to the details: a window, a forgotten façade, or one of the many artistic works scattered throughout the city.

También suelo detenerme en los detalles: una ventana, una fachada olvidada o alguna de las tantas obras artísticas que hay dispersas por toda la ciudad.

Sometimes I realize I'm talking to myself, letting my thoughts wander through that inner dialogue that always accompanies me.

A veces me doy cuenta de que voy hablando solo, dejándome llevar por ese diálogo interno que me acompaña siempre.

And I confess that, more often than not, I return home with a bitter feeling. It hurts to see the city slowly deteriorating and to feel that there are few reasons to believe things will improve anytime soon.

Y confieso que muchas veces regreso a casa con un sabor amargo. Me duele ver cómo la ciudad se va deteriorando y sentir que hay pocas razones para pensar que las cosas cambiarán para mejor.

In the meantime, I keep documenting everything. If one day it all disappears, at least there will be a record of what once existed, of the city we knew, and of the stories that still endure within its streets.
