I n Havana, there are several places that feel almost mystical, but one in particular stands out above the rest; sometimes I compare it to an altar, sometimes to a border, and often to a large sofa where one can rest. Every time I return from taking photos, I usually sit in front of it to watch people go about their lives; there are many life stories deeply intertwined with that stretch of wall facing the sea.

E n La Habana existen varios lugares que son casi místicos, pero sobre todos sobresale uno en particular; a veces suelo compararlo con un altar, a veces frontera y en muchas ocasiones un gran sofá para descansar. Cada vez que regreso de hacer fotos, suelo sentarme frente a él para observar la dinámica de las personas; son muchas historias de vida profundamente vinculadas a ese pedazo de muro frente al mar.

And I wonder, why do young people walk on it when it’s so dangerous? On the other side is the sea and many rocks, but perhaps it’s the sensation of being on the edge, walking along that thin line that attracts them so much. |
Y yo me pregunto, ¿para qué los jóvenes caminan sobre él con lo peligroso que es? Del otro lado está el mar y muchas piedras, pero quizás es la sensación de estar al límite, caminar sobre esa línea tan delgada que tanto les atrae. |
And then there are those who just go to sit and chat, trying to fix the world; they talk about politics, love, and God knows how many other things. |

Some find their daily livelihood there, though most of the time it’s simply the joy of casting a line into the sea. |
Hay quien encuentra en él su sustento diario, aunque la mayoría de las veces solamente es el disfrute de lanzar el anzuelo al mar. |
It’s also a sanctuary; many people there pray or simply talk to themselves. It’s also a place to fall in love. |
También es templo; muchísimas personas allí piden o simplemente hablan consigo mismas. También se vale enamorar. |
I am very fond of this stone wall; I always find peace there, it saves me from bad days, and it makes me believe that there may be a better future. |
Yo le tengo mucho cariño a este muro de piedra; siempre en él encuentro descanso, me salva de días malos y me hace creer que puede haber un futuro mejor. |

El malecón es un lugar santo para los habaneros. Es el lugar donde todos se sientan en las noches y en las mañanas de poco sol para refrescar del intenso calor. Es sagrado porque en él se conocieron muchas parejas, es ideal para enamorar. Es testigo del paso del tiempo y de las locuras de los jóvenes que se bañan en él desafiando lo prohibido. Todos alguna vez nos hemos sentado o caminado por él .
Efectivamente amiga, creo es uno de los lugares más representativos de esta ciudad y que de una forma u otra nos llega a todos, desde el amor hasta el infortunio, gracias por su comentario, me ha gustado mucho.
