My story on the street and some photos. / Monomad Challenge [Eng/Esp]

Hello, friends in the community: How's life treating you? Today I'm sharing more street photos taken in Old Havana, the city's oldest neighborhood. And it's no coincidence that I decided to take photos here—it's one of the safest places to walk the streets without worrying about being robbed or attacked. Plus, the contrasts you see in the homes, in the people, and in everything you take in as you walk through its streets are unique.

Hola, amigos de la comunidad: ¿cómo les va la vida? Hoy vengo con más fotografías callejeras tomadas en La Habana Vieja, la zona más antigua de la ciudad. Y no es casualidad que decidiera hacer fotos en este lugar, es uno de los más seguros para caminar por la calle sin preocuparte de que te roben o te ataquen. Además, los contrastes que se aprecian en las viviendas, en las personas, en todo lo que se puede respirar cuando se camina por sus calles, son únicos.

Usually, when I leave my sister's house and start walking down the street, I'm in a pretty good mood, but that gradually changes as I start observing the people along the way—they look sad, lonely, and worried.

Lo normal es que, al salir de casa de mi hermana y comenzar a caminar por la calle, mi estado anímico sea bastante favorable, pero poco a poco va cambiando cuando uno empieza a observar a las personas por el camino, y es que la gente se ve triste, sola, preocupada.

And what can I say about the lines that form to withdraw money? The bank in the photo is one of the capital's main banks, and honestly, getting inside is quite an ordeal.

Bueno, y qué decir de las colas que se forman para retirar dinero. El banco de la imagen es uno de los principales de la capital, y la verdad es que entrar es toda una odisea.

You can see the entrance to Chinatown in the background, though today there's hardly anything left of that community. There was a time when it was very large and prosperous here.

Se ve la entrada al barrio chino de fondo, aunque hoy apenas queda algo de esa comunidad. Hubo un tiempo en que fue muy grande y próspera aquí.

People struggle to get by in this city as best they can, mainly thanks to these small tricycles that solve a huge problem in the capital and in every province across the country. If it weren't for them, it would be very difficult to get around.

La gente lucha por vivir en esta ciudad como puede, principalmente gracias a estos pequeños triciclos que resuelven un problema enorme en la capital y en todas las provincias del país. Si no fuese por ellos, sería muy difícil trasladarse.

And then, suddenly, I took a breather, a break. I looked for a café that served good coffee, spent 20 minutes in the shade, and continued on my way.

Y, de pronto, tomé un respiro, un descanso. Busqué una cafetería donde sirvieran un buen café, estuve 20 minutos a la sombra y continué mi camino.

There's everything there—literally everything—whether you're looking for Russian, Chinese, or any other country's culture. There's a truly wide range of traditions.

Allí hay de todo, literalmente de todo, ya sea que busquemos ideologías rusas, chinas, de cualquier país. Hay un abanico de tradiciones verdaderamente amplio.

And classic cars—you can never miss them—though I admit I haven't been photographing them as much lately; I've let them take a break. But I see them passing by all the time, and there's the photo.

Y los autos clásicos, estos no pueden faltar nunca, aunque reconozco que últimamente no los he fotografiado tanto, los he dejado descansar, pero los veo pasar a cada rato y ahí está la foto.

And once again, the people on the street—looking for water, looking for food, trying to survive as best they can with whatever strength they have left.

Y de nuevo la gente en la calle, buscando agua, buscando comida, tratando de sobrevivir como puede, con las fuerzas que le quedan.
