Havana’s Houses: A Beautiful Decay [Eng/Esp]

A few days ago, while walking along one of the busiest avenues in Havana, I was like a child looking at the houses, and that area of Havana's Vedado is full of old mansions that look like movies.
Some of them are more than 100 years old and battered by neglect and time, but they still preserve their beauty. Today I want to show them to you with a little tour. Let's start...

Hace algunos días, mientras caminaba por una de las avenidas más transitadas de La Habana, iba yo como niño observando las casas, y es que esa zona del Vedado habanero está llena de antiguas mansiones que parecen de películas.
Algunas con más de 100 años y maltratadas por el abandono y el tiempo, pero igual conservan su belleza. Hoy se las quiero mostrar con un pequeño recorrido. Comenzamos...

The Cuban architectural style since 1900 has evolved for many reasons, including historical, economic and cultural influences.

El estilo arquitectónico cubano a partir de 1900 ha evolucionado por muchas razones, entre ellas la influencia histórica, económica y cultural.

Starting from the Spanish influence with some Creole adaptations, such as masonry houses with tile roofs, interior patios and windows with bars that give them a unique visual appeal.

Comenzando desde la influencia española con algunas adaptaciones criollas, como son las casas de mampostería y techo de tejas, patios interiores y ventanas con rejas que les dan un atractivo visual único.

In addition, many are the houses that defend the Neoclassical style, characterized by the details in the facades, the large windows, in short, a whole mansion.

Además, muchas son las casas que defienden el estilo Neoclásico, se caracterizan por los detalles en las fachadas, los grandes ventanales, en fin toda una mansión.

From 1940 onwards, they began to be built in a more modernist style, highlighting the geometric lines and using other types of construction materials that give them a unique and elegant finish.

Ya a partir de 1940 se comienzan a construir con un estilo más modernista, resaltan las líneas geométricas y se usan otros tipos de materiales de construcción que les dan un acabado único y elegante.

While taking this photo, it struck me that the lady walking on the sidewalk happened to be dressed in the same color as the wall of the house, coincidence of life 😉

Mientras hacía esta foto, me llamó la atención que la señora que camina por la acera casualmente iba vestida del mismo color del muro de la casa, casualidades de la vida 😉.

Many of these houses are very deteriorated and those that still retain their splendor are nothing compared to 60 years ago, however they leave you amazed when you see them. Now, I confess that I had no idea about these styles. I was discovering this on my tour, I was taking pictures and googling. Blessed technology 😊.

Muchas de estas casas están muy deterioradas y las que aún conservan su esplendor no son nada comparadas con 60 años atrás, no obstante te dejan asombrado al verlas. Ahora, les confieso que ni idea tenía yo sobre estos estilos. Esto lo fui descubriendo en mi recorrido, iba haciendo fotos y buscando en Google. Bendita tecnología 😊.
