Hello, how’s everyone doing over there? Greetings from Havana, dear friends.

Lately, I’ve become a bit more organized when it comes to heading out to take photos. Before, I used to walk around without a clear plan, but now I usually think about what I want to photograph and map out a possible route. The truth is, I’ve really grown to like this approach because it’s yielded great results.

Últimamente me he vuelto un poco más organizado a la hora de salir a la calle a hacer fotos. Antes caminaba sin un rumbo muy definido, pero ahora suelo pensar en lo que quiero fotografiar y trazar una posible ruta. La verdad es que le he tomado gusto a esa estrategia porque me ha dado muy buenos resultados.

Today I want to share with you some details of the city—little nooks and crannies and certain pieces of graffiti that really caught my eye. They aren’t the most eye-catching or the largest, but they do have something that makes them special. There’s an air of mystery about them that I find hard to ignore.

Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes algunos detalles de la ciudad, pequeños rincones y ciertos grafitis que me llamaron mucho la atención. No son los más llamativos ni los más grandes, pero sí tienen algo que los hace especiales. Hay en ellos un aire de misterio que me resulta difícil ignorar.

And the thing is, when you think about it, we’re drawn to mystery. We love stories, legends, superstitions, and everything that sparks the imagination. That’s why it’s not uncommon to find elements related to these themes in many corners of the city.

Y es que, pensándolo bien, a nosotros nos atrae el misterio. Nos gustan las historias, las leyendas, las supersticiones y todo aquello que despierta la imaginación. Por eso no es raro encontrar elementos relacionados con estos temas en muchos rincones de la ciudad.

Some have a very clear meaning; others, honestly, I can’t quite figure out. But even so, they’re part of that popular culture we see every day and that ends up becoming part of the urban landscape.

Algunos tienen un significado muy claro; otros, sinceramente, no logro descifrarlo. Pero aun así forman parte de esa cultura popular que vemos todos los días y que termina integrándose al paisaje urbano.

There’s plenty to explore here, as we say. You just have to go out with an eye for these things to find dozens of examples: religious amulets, symbols to attract good luck, protect against the evil eye, and many other expressions that are part of everyday life.

Aquí hay mucha tela por donde cortar, como solemos decir. Basta salir con la mirada puesta en ese tema para encontrar decenas de ejemplos: amuletos religiosos, símbolos para atraer la buena suerte, protegerse del mal de ojo y muchas otras expresiones que forman parte de la vida cotidiana.

That’s why I wanted to share this little showcase with you today. If you ever visit this city, I recommend paying attention to those details that sometimes go unnoticed. Often, they are the ones that tell the most interesting stories.

Por eso quise traerles hoy esta pequeña muestra. Si algún día visitan esta ciudad, les recomiendo prestar atención a esos detalles que a veces pasan desapercibidos. Muchas veces son ellos los que cuentan las historias más interesantes.
