Chronicles of a Street Photographer (Introspection) Day 8. [ Eng/Esp]

Hello, friends, how are you doing? According to the dictionary, introspection means: An inward gaze directed at one’s own actions or states of mind. I think this is something that defines me: when I go out to do street photography, I become very introspective.

Saludos, amigos, ¿qué tal les va? Según el diccionario, la introspección significa: Mirada interior que se dirige a los propios actos o estados de ánimo. Creo que esto es algo que me define: cuando salgo a hacer street photography, me pongo muy introspectivo.

I’m constantly looking inward, asking myself questions about the why and the what for. Now, I also really enjoy taking the photos, but I still think this is something that has developed over time.

Todo el tiempo me estoy mirando por dentro, haciéndome preguntas, del porqué y para qué. Ahora, también disfruto mucho el hacer las fotos, pero igual creo que esto es algo que ha surgido con el tiempo.

There are scenes that are perfect for a photo, but I don’t take them, and that’s because I don’t feel comfortable or don’t see a reason to take them.

Hay escenas que son buenísimas para una foto, pero no las hago, y es producto de que no me siento cómodo o no veo justificable hacerla.

My nephew says I’m getting old; that might be part of it, but at the same time, I empathize more with people on the street and their privacy.

Dice mi sobrino que me estoy poniendo viejo; también puede ser eso, pero a la vez empatizo más con la gente de la calle y su privacidad.

This is a complicated issue, especially in a city like Havana. A while back, there was a lot of tourism, and people were more open to being photographed, but now that there are practically no foreigners, everything has become more mysterious and somber.

Es complicado este tema, y más en una ciudad como La Habana. Hace un tiempo que había bastante turismo, las personas eran más abiertas a ser fotografiadas, pero ahora que prácticamente no hay ningún extranjero, todo se ha vuelto más misterioso y sombrío.
