Chronicles of a Street Photographer, Day 5./ Monomad Challenge [Eng/Esp]

Hello, friends of #blackandwhite, how’s life treating you? Over here, they just got the power back on, and I’m rushing to post in the community. I wanted to let you know that May 17 is the International Day Against Homophobia, and coincidentally, it’s also Farmers’ Day; so Yilmer says to me: “Muha!” Let’s take some photos of the event and you can come with me—I’ve never been before! Of course, he didn’t have to ask me twice; I grabbed my camera, and I was ready to go.

Saludos, amigos de #blackandwhite, ¿cómo les lleva la vida? Por este lado del mundo me acaban de poner la electricidad y estoy corriendo para publicar en la comunidad. Les cuento que el pasado 17 de mayo se celebra el Día contra la homofobia, y casualmente también es el Día del campesino; entonces me dice Yilmer: ¡Muha! Vamos a hacer fotos del evento y así me acompañas, ¡que nunca he ido! Por supuesto, no había que decírmelo dos veces; agarré la cámara, y ya estaba listo.

Every year they throw a party for this occasion, and at times it can get pretty violent, so I was prepared to see it all. But no, everything was pretty peaceful.

Todos los años hacen una fiesta por tal motivo, y en momentos se llega a poner muy violenta, así que iba preparado para ver de todo. Pero no, todo fue bastante pacífico.

There was a moment when they almost wouldn’t let me through—between the police on guard and the dancers, there was a massive crowd; that’s when I remembered the magic words: “Press, press!” And there you go—tricks you pick up along the way.

Hubo un momento en que casi no le dejan pasar, entre policías custodiando y los bailarines, tremenda congestión de personas; allí me acordé de las palabras mágicas: ¡prensa, prensa! Y listo, técnicas que uno aprende por el camino.

That said, there was great music and plenty of scenes that are a joy for a street photographer to document.

Eso sí, buena música, y muchas escenas que para un fotógrafo callejero son una maravilla documentar.

I couldn’t miss the opportunity, dear friends, or let this occasion pass me by, which is why I wanted to share these images with you—even though they’re from a few days ago, I found them quite interesting.
