Chronicles of a Street Photographer, Day 11 (Absence and Companionship) /Monomad Challenge [Eng/Esp]

Hello, friends of the #blackandwhite community, how are you all doing? This latest trip to Havana had its quirks; I’ll tell you, I arrived at my sister’s house thinking I’d grab a snack, have some coffee, and head out, and there was my nephew Wisin waiting for me, backpack and all, ready to come along as my assistant, he told me.

Saludos, amigos de la comunidad #blackandwhite, ¿cómo les va? Este último viaje a La Habana tuvo sus peculiaridades; les comento que llegué a casa de mi hermana pensando que sería merendar algo, café y salir a la calle, y allí me estaba esperando mi sobrino Wisin, mochila y todo listo para ir conmigo de ayudante, me dijo.

He’d just finished school and was bored at home; what better than to go out for a walk with his uncle? “Actually, I could use the company,” I told my sister; so we got everything ready and headed out.

Es que terminó la escuela y se aburre en casa; qué mejor que salir con el tío a pasear. La verdad, me viene bien la compañía, le dije a mi hermana; entonces preparamos todo y salimos.

The streets have looked desolate lately, practically lifeless; what used to be a bustling crowd of people coming and going is now almost a desert.

La calle en estos últimos tiempos se ve desolada, sin vida prácticamente; lo que antes era un bullicio de personas en su ir y venir, ahora es casi un desierto.

Wisin was fascinated by the graffiti and even discovered some new pieces.

Wisin estaba encantado con los grafitis y hasta descubrió algunos nuevos.

It makes me sad to see the city like this, dull, tired, and its people in the same state; you can feel an atmosphere of despair on every corner.

Me da tristeza ver la ciudad así, apagada, cansada, y su gente por el mismo camino; se siente una atmósfera de desesperanza en cada esquina.

We stayed out like that until practically noon; the boy was getting hungry, so we headed back home. "Man, you’ve already hired an assistant, huh? Don’t you dare go out without me," he told me.

Así estuvimos hasta el mediodía prácticamente; ya el niño tenía hambre, así que regresamos a casa. ¡Tío, ya tienes ayudante contratado!, ¿eh?, no te atrevas a salir sin mí, me dijo.
