Black and white snake./ Monomad Challenge [Eng/Esp]

Greetings, friends.

I am fortunate to live in the countryside, or at least in a rural area, where nature is our daily bread. And I say fortunate because it really is a blessing to explore places, find beautiful species, and, even better, be able to photograph them. That's exactly what happened to me with this specimen of snake, known as the Cuban boa.

These snapshots 📸 are my submission for the #monomad challenge by @monochromes and @brumest.

It all happened on a farm whose owner had already warned me that the animal was eating his chicks. Without thinking twice, I went after it.

I found him on an iron frame, trying to warm himself in the faint morning sun.

They are not usually aggressive if left alone, but when stressed, they do something very curious: they rise up on their bellies and strike like a cobra. They are not poisonous, although their bite can cause intoxication... as well as a fright 😱.

I spent quite a while there trying to photograph it as it slipped between the iron bars, always with great caution.
Every now and then it would stop and look at me, as if to say: I can see you, don't come too close.

I was fascinated by the play of light and shadow, and the unique texture of its skin. The scene lasted no more than five minutes; little by little, I lost sight of it until it disappeared into one of the cavities in the area.

The experience was very exciting. I had seen them before, and I even caught a smaller one once, but I had never been able to take such close-up photos of them 😍.

Tengo la dicha de vivir en el campo, o al menos en una zona rural, donde la naturaleza es el pan nuestro de cada día. Y digo dicha porque realmente es una bendición explorar lugares, encontrar especies hermosas y, mejor aún, poder fotografiarlas. Eso fue exactamente lo que me sucedió con este ejemplar de serpiente, el llamado Jubo cubano.

Todo ocurrió en una finca cuyo dueño ya me había alertado de que el animal le estaba comiendo los pollitos. Sin pensarlo mucho, fui tras él.

Lo encontré en un armazón de hierro, intentando calentarse con el poco sol de la mañana.

No suelen ser agresivos si no se les molesta, pero cuando se estresan hacen algo muy curioso: se alzan sobre su vientre y embisten como una cobra. No son venenosos, aunque su mordedura puede causar una intoxicación… además del susto 😱.

Allí estuve un buen rato intentando fotografiarlo mientras se deslizaba entre los hierros, siempre con mucha precaución.
A cada rato se detenía y me miraba, como diciendo: te estoy viendo, no te acerques demasiado.

Me fascinó el juego de luces y sombras, y la textura de su piel, tan particular.
La escena no duró más de cinco minutos; poco a poco lo fui perdiendo de vista hasta que se adentró en una de las cavidades del lugar.

La experiencia fue muy emocionante. Ya los había visto antes, incluso en alguna ocasión agarré uno más pequeño, pero nunca había podido hacerles una “sesión” de fotos tan de cerca 😍.
