Hello, Hive friends: how's everything going?

Today I'm here with something a little different from what I usually share. Let me tell you, one of the things I like to do is set myself personal challenges, because I feel they help me to continue learning photography. So, whenever I get the chance, I do them. A few days ago, while visiting my father, I saw a small, very common lizard on some wooden boards in the yard. The light was terrible, and to make matters worse, my camera, which is getting on in years, doesn't help much in those conditions. But right then and there, I said to myself, "Well, this is today's challenge."

First, I tried taking pictures against the light, and since the little animal was busy, I took what we Cubans call "las fotos de los 15" (the 15 photos). Why? Because those seemingly insignificant subjects that, under other circumstances, one would pass up, can be a perfect opportunity to better understand light and exercise creativity.

I found it very amusing because after a while, the neighborhood children who had been watching me began to gather around and ask me lots of questions: Why are you taking pictures of a lizard? And many more. In the end, I gave them a talk about wildlife care and conservation. So, do you usually practice this way, or do you do something different? I would love to read your comments.

Hola, amigos de Hive: ¿qué tal todo?

Hoy vengo con algo un poco distinto a lo que suelo compartir. Les cuento, una de las cosas que me gusta hacer es ponerme retos personales, porque siento que me ayudan a seguir aprendiendo fotografía. Así que, cada vez que tengo la oportunidad, los hago. Hace unos días, mientras visitaba a mi padre, vi en el patio un pequeño lagarto muy común sobre unas tablas de madera. La luz era fatal y, para colmo, mi cámara, que ya tiene sus años, no ayuda mucho en esas condiciones. Pero ahí mismo me dije: «Bueno, este es el reto de hoy».

Primero probé a hacerle fotos a contraluz y, como el animalito estaba entretenido, le hice, como decimos los cubanos, «las fotos de los 15».¿Y por qué? Pues porque esos motivos que parecen insignificantes y que, en otras circunstancias, uno dejaría pasar, pueden ser una oportunidad perfecta para entender mejor la luz y ejercitar la creatividad.

Me dio mucha gracia, porque al rato los niños del barrio que me estaban observando comenzaron a llegar a donde estaba y a hacerme muchas preguntas: ¿por qué le haces fotos a una lagartija? Y así muchas más, en fin, terminé dándoles una charla sobre cuidado y conservación de la fauna. ¿Entonces tú sueles practicar de esta forma o haces algo diferente? Me encantaría leer sus comentarios.
