Thumbs up | MTBing injury | Race Photography

Heeeyho Readers! Sports injuries sucks!

Thumbs up for me!

First, because I'm fine. Second, because my thumb is actually up. Sports injuries sucks! I've been mountain biking for years and am at peace with injuries. They happen sooner or later. It's just that crashing while training, two days before a race, frustrates anyone.

Last Friday a friend and I went about to train for Sunday's XCO (olympic cross country) race. I should've known better that dew over grass on a 30-kilometer-and-hour turn deserves attention. Not for less, after a few passes and with more and more confidence, my wheels washed out sending me sliding on my side. Common crash had I not stick my thumb out.

I'm fine. Sprained thumb, ice, massage and a lot of patience to wait it heal. Unfortunately, dumb thumb didn't heal until the race. Thumbs up. {Pa-dum-tss}.

I can still photograph

With the event ruined for me, the only thing left to do is to photograph. I took my 2013 Nikon D7100 along with a 1980's all manual 50mm lens (the only decent lens I have other than a 18-105mm). Manual focusing on a cycling event is challenging, though I think the results are decent.

It got me a few minutes to remember how to use the DSLR since it's been a long time that I don't photo-shoot. It's incredible how we lose the hand without practicing.

The best thing of olympic cross country is that the race happens in a closed circuit, different than marathon that's performed on vicinal roads. That gives the public a chance to enjoy the races.

A guy asked how could I photography without any zoom lens. I said: "get closer". Using a single lens gives us a chance of moving more an that's the cool thing about photographing.

Gotta admit I was afraid of opening the hell out of the aperture to blur the background. With such a thin focal range I'm sure the photos would end up more out of focus since my lens doesn't have auto-focus.

Although it's nice to photography a cycling event, I still prefer to race {sigh}. Kinda anxious waiting for the thumb to heal, but... there's nothing else I can do.

I hope you've enjoyed the photos of our little event as much as I enjoyed taking them.

Peace.

It is a really nice place indeed! Too bad I didn't take any landscape photos with the lagoon in the background where people fish and capture shrimp. Thanks for the positive comment

Take care 🤗 hope it heals up quickly.
It’s always bad luck when it happens during training 😣

Yeahhhh, but I think some things happen for a reason... there was a big crash during the race, so maybe destiny spared me frim that one. Thanks for the lovely comment

Sorry to hear about another bike injury of yours, it really sucks when it happens just before the race :/ On the other had, you wouldn´t be able to take all these cool shots if you were competing, you did a very good job capturing them ;) Also, I´m happy to see such a nice payout on your post, well deserved buddy! :)

On the other hand, I still have a functioning thumb 🤣🤣🤣🤣 (pa-dum-tss).

Indeed man, sometimes it's worth it to step back and enjoy the races from the outside. I'm surprised with the payout ☺ it's been a while and will alleviate some bills whohooo
