How We Harvest Coconut Fruits?

avatar

Our country, the Philippines, is one of the biggest exporters of coconut Fruits. Whether it's coconut juice or Buko juice, coconut oil, or coconut milk. Perhaps, most of you wonder how the coconut fruits were harvested since the coconut tree is tall. Though there are different ways depending on a region. Let me show you and tell you how we harvested coconut fruits.

Using a sharp material we cut only the side of a tree to create a stair-like but not that deep. Depending on a person's legs to reach the next one or we call it a "hak-hak." The image will show you how it looks like that "hak-hak", in that image where there's like a small hole but not too deep. The person who will climb will place his foot to be able to climb that tree.

Climbing a coconut tree even though there's "hak-hak" is not easy. It's like climbing a hill but without using safety materials just like a rope or a cable to hold. Also, that "hak-hak" is a bit sharp when it was just recently created. Added more to be aware of is that when you're not used to it your feet can't tolerate the pain. So if you're not used to it, don't even think of climbing.

There are regions in the Philippines I just forgot the name of. They are using a ladder that was made from a bamboo tree. It should be long, of course, to reach where the coconut fruits can be found or at the top of it. There are regions as well that are using a longer material to reach the top, either a tall bamboo tree or a piece of wood.

To add more information about coconut fruit. The coconut fruits that are being harvested are categorized into two. The older kind of fruits which are being harvested where the coconut oil can be extracted. While the younger types of coconut fruits are being harvested where the fruits are being eaten or also called Buko. That's why if you're wondering why those different types of coconut fruits are being harvested this is the reason. Coconut fruits in extracting coconut oil and coconut fruits to eat or also called Buko.

Anyway, that's how we harvested coconut fruits in our region. We climb it with the help of "hak-hak" or a stairway-like structure created at the side of the coconut tree.
