The city of Split - Croatia
After my last post about our visit to beautiful Dubrovnik I also wanted to share our experiences from our next stop on this vacation, the city of Split

We decided to take a ferry from Dubrovnik to Split. On this rather long 5 hour ride, we could enjoy the view of the Adriatic see and it's many many islands.

We arrived in the late afternoon not knowing what to expect from this city. And I want to be honest, my first impression was not good! We arrived with hundreds of other tourists and all walked their way to the city like a herd of sheep. We followed along to the main boulevard on the harbor, filled with even more tourists. Our room was pretty much directly here. So, we had a good location but the size of the room was small and on the fifth floor without lift.

No doubt Split is a very Touristik City with all the typical tourist stuff you would expect.....
However, once you start walking around this town you will realize, there is a reason why it is so popular among tourists. The old town is consisting of small alleys leading you to different plazas and corners of the city and revealing it's history which is everything but boring.

I was very surprised to find a lot of relics from the Roman empire everywhere.

And they are so embedded into the city that old and modern are merging to something truly unique. I can say I have never experienced a city like Split.
So please let me share some of the impressions of the city and I hope you will enjoy it as much as we did.

We have been lucky to be here during Croatias independence day and could taste some traditional food on a street fest. It was quite delicious 🤤

Speaking about food, there are some good restaurants in the old town and we tried one or two. The food was not bad but in relation to the price, it was not worth it.
If you ever plan to go there, look for the local restaurants a bit outside the tourist spots because there you can find the real good stuff for real reasonable prices. Look at the food we got and trust me, it tasted even better then it looks 🤤

If you want to know how to find it, let me know and I share the location with me. The owner was super welcoming and explained that they only use ingredients from local farmers and fisherman. I think I could actually taste the real Croatia food here for the first time.
Besides the good food and history, you can also find some nice swimming spots close by. This was very apprafter spending all day in the hot Sun and eating to much food.

Another reason why Split is crowded, it is the starting point for many tours. From here you can book tours to many nearby attractions like several national Parks, caves, islands and a lot more. Maybe I will share another post about what we visited because some places are breathtaking beautiful, and I mean it. Please let me know if you're interested to see it 😊
I hope you enjoyed my little post about Split and let me know if you have any questions about it.
The tour you've given us of that beautiful Croatian city is wonderful, with stunning, evocative photos of all its architectural, natural, and culinary treasures. Best regards, @mrf83.

Good afternoon @mrf83, I'll be honest, I was also surprised to see the enormous mark that Rome left in Split. I am happy to know that it coincided with Croatian Independence Day and to be able to try the local cuisine. I really enjoyed this visit, thank you for sharing it.
A very big greeting!
Good morning @enraizar to see that roman impact was a surprise for me too. It really felt like a little Rome in the Adriatic.
Thank you so much for your nice comment and support.
Have a wonderful day!
