The Art of Editing

I really love photo editing. For me capturing a moment is only half the story. It's all in the processing, the magic in the digital darkroom, where you breathe life into the pixels, until it looks like your own unique vision, and not just a mechanical snapshot of reality.
I understand that photography is subjective, for some the image isn't complete without the raw processing, as they believe that what the sensor records is what the image is all about. For others the idea of a black and white conversion is much more appealing, as they want to capture their vision through a different kind of lens. As art lovers, we all have our own criteria when it comes to art, so I decided to post three different variations of this particular shot. The first one is the edited version, the second is the raw unprocessed image, and the third variation is the ever-classic black and white conversion.
The discussion around the merits of one type of photography over another is an endless debate. I find that with each raw shot that gets processed, a deeper emotion gets extracted from the image, and the raw shot itself can sometimes even seem dull in comparison to its edited version. The camera records the information as a sensor, but the human brain remembers the feeling. When the light is processed, balanced, and tweaked just right, the emotion that inspired the photographer to capture the moment in the first place, can live on through the edited image. The black and white conversion on the other hand, removes all color and drama from the image, which leaves the composition and the lighting to tell the story of the shot.
They both tell a different story and invoke a different reaction from the eye and the mind, but I'm sure there are other opinions out there, what do you think?
Which version do you like best, the edited version, the raw, or the black and white conversion? Sound off in the comments below!
