Do Not Eat Me! Is what this Black Brain Shaped Fungus looks like to me!

For todays Fungi Friday i have a few shots of a very alien brain like looking mushroom sitting on a cut tree trunk for you to marvel about. The closest i could find on the interwebs is what is called a ‚Warty Black Glandling‘ or ‚Witch Butter‘ with the latin name Exidia Nigricans. Those names surely add to the looks of this glibbery brainlike fungi in telling me „Do Not Eat Me!“. In case some of you know this one and know exactly what it‘s called feel free to correct me in the comments.

FUNGI FACTS:
Fungi are also found in the air we breathe. Many species of fungi produce spores that are dispersed by the wind and can be found in the air we breathe. Some of these spores can cause allergies or infections, but most are harmless.

Now to the photos. Here we see this ‚Warty Black Glandling‘ sitting on top of the tree trunk.

This is another view of the same glibbery brainlike fungi from the other side.

In this third shot we see ‚Witch Butter‘ thing sitting on the side of the tree trunk. I‘d guess those are fruit bodies of the same mycelium as the one on top of the trunk.

I hope you enjoyed watching the photos even if this fungi is not really a beauty.

Somehow that brain-like fungus reminded me of the TV show "The Last of Us" - which is based on the video game of the same title...

In that show, a type of fungi caused humans to mutate into zombie-like monsters.

Yep, i‘ve seen it, it‘s a mutated Cordyceps fungus that infects people in the show.

It‘s ok, but doesn‘t live up to the hype i think. The depressing atmosphere, the colors and sound design of The Walking Dead were much more on the spot for this kind of topic, imho.

Ah, I finally met another TWD fan here!
I'm waiting for the whole new universe of TWD after the original series was concluded.
Anyway, yeah, you are quite correct. Then again different producers and directors have different styles.
