Garden news!
Days have passed and I am still tired from work, family visits and the weather that every day is getting warmer, the spring season is noticeable and I can not help but feel tired because of it, I have always told you how bad the heat makes me and although I want to live in a bubble with air conditioning, the truth is that I need to go outside to work, take my pictures and go for food to the market, I even need to go outside to check the garden and it is something that every day becomes harder and harder to do.
But it's not all bad, stopping to see the garden every day gives me the possibility to see more easily the changes in the garden, cacti that are finally showing the variegated color, cacti that are growing and about to bloom, so today I want to show those changes in the garden. As for example the following Astrophytum variegated that I sowed from seed.
This other one is also variegated and looks interesting, although I personally think the previous one has more potential for having 5 ribs.
Another one.
I have an Astrophytum from the seeds of cultivars that came from Thailand that came out with an interesting color, it already has two months grafted and although at first I thought that the graft had not been successful, from what I see the last few days it began to grow very fast, I still don't know exactly what cultivar it is since it was a mix of different species.
The Astrophytum Capricorne grafts are also growing and this is a good sign.
The Echinopsis mirabilis flower from 3 weeks ago looks like it did pollinate.
The Ariocarpus retusus 'Las Tablas' keeps growing and is becoming another of my favorites.
With the seeds of Epithelantha micromeris I didn't have much success, only 3 were born and only two of them survived the grafting, fortunately they are growing healthy.
I hope you remember this post from two months ago, the grafting was a success and there is new growth on the cactus.
In that post I also showed you this astrophytum from thailand seeds, here you can see it more grown, and also in that post I showed you this obregonia denegrii, you can see its growth and the truth is that I love these cacti.
The bad thing about not being able to check the garden as I did before is that suddenly I can miss many things such as flowers like the echinopsis oxigona that I couldn't see in time, from what I see it was white and I hope to pay more attention to the following flowers, or for example due to the heat and that my substrate is very dry, a couple of cactus were dehydrating and it is likely that some of them will die, luckily I could realize it and today I watered the whole garden.
Another thing that I realized is that I have let the rootstocks grow a lot of new shoots, and as I said before I let them do it to have more rootstocks, but there comes a time when I must cut them so they do not interfere with the growth of the grafted cactus, so in the week I will make the necessary cuts, see you in the next post.
Looking good!!
My Epithelantha bloomed this year for the first time. Will show soon :)
Let me know when you make the post, I'd like to see it.
I have some serious envy for those astrophytums! Maybe you missed the echinopsis because it blooms at night? I often miss mine, unless I go and look early in the morning
I will have the opportunity in a few days, there are still flowers to open and I will confirm if they are nocturnal or not.
