Sewing a lovely Christmas dress for a sweet and yet less privileged child

IMG_7214.jpeg

While I have continued the series of sewing Christmas outfits for almost everyone around me. Gifting the less privilege children of my neighbourhood takes the top priority. The reason is because they cannot afford any new outfit by themselves and instead of any feeling pity for themselves I wish to delight them. I am of the opinion that everyone should be happy at Christmas, in their new clothes as a matter of fact. It is a tradition to wear new cloth on Christmas and nobody should be left out even if they cannot afford it. We can recycle old clothes or sew lovely designs of cheap fabric. They would be styled simple and yet lovely enough and befitting, no one should feel left out of the joy of Christmas.

I made a dress for one of these ladies here some days ago and had a half yard of the fabric print remaining, this isn't enough to make anymore outfit for another person but she had a younger sister who almost burst into tears knowing that her big sis has a new outfit lovely designed by me for Christmas and she would be having nothing. The 14year old was sad and I couldn't bear to see her. The least I had done was to cheer her up, to keep hope alive and that just maybe someone will gift her a new outfit for Christmas too.

I asked her if she has any money to buy some cheap fabric so that we can combine it with the half yard of fabric left from her sisters dress but she had no money on her and the parents couldn't help with any penny either.

It was time for me to make a little sacrifice here, buy the fabric and still sew the outfit for free.
Checking at the cost I bought a cheap satin of $1 choosing this orange color that is a part of the fabric to form a matching color , I also got Zippers and thread.

Here is the satin which I had cut and would be joining it to the lower part of her dress.I left a little portion of the fabric to create a ball sleeve for her dress.

Due to the lots of engagement and sewing projects surrounding me I rushed to cut a sweetheart off shoulder bodice pattern which is easy for me to sew now after several practice and work sewing other people's bustier dresses.

One thing that gives me joy now is that she isn't aware that I had gone ahead to buy the materials using my own money to sew her a Christmas dress, this will come as a big surprise to her.
I will be delivering the dress to her on the day that her sis comes to take her own dress.

Another thing is that a magic has to happen for the dress to fit her perfectly, the reason is that I didn't measure her bodice before cutting the outfit because I don't want her to be aware that I was making this.

This is the very first time I will be making an outfit for someone without taking their measurements. Some seamstresses are so good at guessing measurements and I hope to find my luck with this dress.
I'm working on the sleeves currently and had used just about 4hrs to cut, sew and complete a dress.

This looks neatly sewn. I picked up a few from my mom. That a princess cut yeah? That’s if I’m not mistaken. The gown looks really good. This is a nice piece.
