Our journey from Lolipora to Yusmarg remains one of the most cherished trips I have taken with my friends. Though it has been a year and a half since that adventure, the memories are still fresh in my mind. The excitement of setting off from our village, surrounded by rolling hills, made the trip even more special. Road trips with friends always create the best stories, and this one was no exception.

One of the first places we stopped was Nilnag, a serene blue lake nestled within dense forests. The reflection of the tall trees in its still waters was mesmerizing, making it the perfect spot to pause and take photographs. After spending some time soaking in the peaceful atmosphere, we continued toward Yusmarg. The journey was meant to be short, but the rough terrain forced us to push our vehicle at certain spots, stretching our travel time to about 40 minutes instead of the expected 20.

When we finally reached Yusmarg, the vast green meadows welcomed us with their serenity. Knowing that our time there was limited, we immediately started clicking pictures, capturing as many moments as possible. The warm sunlight, the cool mountain breeze, and the laughter we shared made the experience truly unforgettable.

A visit to Doodh Ganga followed. The river, once flowing freely through Yusmarg’s forests, had lost much of its water after the construction of a hydropower project on the other side. Though the reduced flow had affected its beauty, the peaceful sound of the remaining stream and the refreshing coolness of the breeze still made it a pleasant stop. We dipped our feet in the water, shared stories, and simply enjoyed being together.

As hunger struck, we made our way to a restaurant near Doodh Ganga on our way back to Yusmarg. There, we treated ourselves to authentic Kashmiri dishes like Rogan Josh, Rista, and Yakhni. The flavors were rich and satisfying, adding to the warmth of the experience.

The final stop of the trip was Yusmarg’s Sunset Point. We were fortunate to reach just in time to witness the sun dipping behind the mountains, painting the sky in golden hues. It was a perfect moment of reflection—a reminder of the beauty around us and the friendships we held dear.

The ride back home was filled with laughter and conversations, as we relived the day’s highlights. Even though time has passed, the bond we strengthened during that journey remains just as strong. Traveling with childhood friends is a joy like no other, and this trip was a beautiful reminder of life’s simple pleasures. These moments, though now memories, are treasures we will always hold close.
