Chasing the Twilight at Rawa Jombor

Have you ever felt the need to need to take a break? Not because you're sad or have a problem. Just want to pause, take a deep breath, and be in quiet place. That afternoon, I felt that strongly. So without thinking much, I took my motorcycle and decided to go to a place I've wanted to visit again for a long time, which is Rawa Jombor in Klaten.

The journey wasn't too far. From the center of Klaten, it takes about 20 minutes by motorcycle while going slowly. But once I arrived, it felt like crossing into another world. The streets that were once busy became quiet. Time seemed to slow down. The air was cooler and fresher.

I arrived around half past four in the afternoon. The perfect time to chase the twilight. The sky begin to change colors, from bright blue to warm orange. The surface of the wetland was vast and calm like glass. The sunlight reflected off the water, creating a reflection that brought peace to my heart. In the distance, small boat moved slowly. Everything was relaxed.

I stopped at one of the more visited spots at Rawa Jombor. There were many simple stalls along the road. The stalls directly faced the wetland. I ordered iced tea and cireng to take to my favorite spot. It was ordinary, but the taste felt twice as good because of the atmosphere.

I can see the sun slowly sinking behind the hills. The atmosphere was very peaceful. Not peaceful in total silence, but just enough to feel tranquil. On both sides, there were groups of young people chatting while sitting on the grass. There was also a young couple with a tripod sitting by the wetland looking for the perfect photo spot. But everything was calm, as if everyone understood that it was time to be quiet and enjoy.

I took a short walk while enjoying the views around Rawa Jombor. The breeze was gentle, and the air started to cool. The sky became more dramatic. The orange turned into deep red, then purple. But not dark purple, more like a light purple. It’s hard to explain, but if you saw it firsthand, you'll understand what I mean hahaha.

When the Maghrib call to prayer sounds, the lights around started to turn on. The stalls sprang to life again, and the atmosphere changed from quiet to warm. But it was still not noisy. The dim yellow light made it comfortable to sit longer.

I sat for a moment longer before heading home. It felt heavy to leave the atmosphere that had just brought me peace. That afternoon, I realized this was not just about watching the sunset. It was about giving time to myself. Loosening my thoughts. And for me, Rawa Jombor provided that space.

Sometimes, we don't need a trendy or viral place to rest. What we're looking for is place that accepts us for who we are. Rawa Jombor, that afternoon, became that place for me. :D
