Sparrow Gathering Nest Material

Sparrows come and go so quickly that I find it's almost a treat to get a few shots of one that are crisp and clear. This one was gathering up some materials for its nest. Taking items found in nature to build a home, just like humans do. Its interesting that that such a small bird has these skills and thought patterns. Seeing little bits of twigs, leaves, and foliage and deciding that it is something that can be repurposed to provide comfort, warmth, and protection. There is a mix of instinct and creativity involved in this process; it reminds me a little of when I was a kid and I would see wood to try and build a fort out of. The bird, though, has a much better idea of what it was doing than I did and probably could still outbuild me if we were competing.
