Red Dragonfly

The White-faced meadowhawk is found in Southern Canada and across the United States. In Calgary, Alberta I have found them in natural areas near ponds, marshes and other bodies of water. Like many dragonflies, they require some patience and determination to get close ups of, I find early morning and just before sunset to be good times to catch them in a more docile state. I will wait in a spot where I see them flying around and try to spot them as they land, then approach slowly so they don't get startled by any fast movements.
