Monomad: Walk Around Stephen Avenue Downtown Calgary
I like to wander the streets of downtown Calgary a bit with no real plan, just a direction. This time I chose Stephen Avenue, which cuts through the heart of the core and has several blocks dedicated to pedestrians.
It is quite a mix of new and old; the sandstone and concrete facades of the older buildings have stood for over 100 years in some cases, and they are mixed in with the steel and concrete of several decades of skyscrapers. The little details on the street also catch my eye; a steel horse made from scrap metal and a cowboy-themed character outside of a Shawarma place blend the western themes of the city with a multicultural population.
I see reflections in windows and dark alleys with old school-type fire escapes. Wooden door ways catch my eyes with their geometric shapes. The glass rflects the views around me distorting things to add another visually appealoing view. Its not hard to find something interesting to take a photo off and this seems to apply anywhere I go as long as I am willing to observe waht is around me.
