Monomad: Spider Monkey at the Calgary Zoo
Spider monkeys are found throughout Central and South America, ranging from southern Mexico to Brazil. Recent studies have shown that they are among the smartest of New World monkeys. They mostly eat fruit but also will munch on leaves, flowers, and insects if the opportunity arises. Known to be quite social, their bands can consist of up to 35 individuals, and during the day they will split up to forage for food. Known to produce a large amount of sounds, spider monkeys will bark when threatened.
