Monomad: Grasshopper on the sand
I always find that it's nearly impossible to get a shot once I have spotted a grasshopper. They will hop away so fast that they become nearly impossible to track. With a flying insect, you can generally still see where it flew off to and maybe try and follow. With the grasshopper, it's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment. I think with how their eyes are placed at the side of their heads, there isn't much they are going to miss, so as soon as they see movement, they will be gone. My only real chance is to hope I can get behind one like this subject and slowly move in without being seen to get a few shots off. Of course, with macros it's even harder to get your focus right, so even this method was quite a bit of trial and error. Luckily, a few shots did work, and no grasshoppers were harmed in this production.
