Horned Grebe
Horned grebes live in some of the same habitats as mallard ducks but will more likely not be found around places with too many people. So it is usually the wetlands of some of the larger natural areas in and around Calgary that I have spotted these interesting birds. They tend to like open water and emergent vegetation. In the winter they will migrate to coastal areas, and some may remain on larger freshwater bodies. They enjoy diving and will feed on fish and invertebrates.

Hi @mmckinneyphoto13,
How funny—blond with a black beard hahaha… And from what I can tell, rather shy… finding it must be a source of joy. Thank you for sharing those images and the information.

I know about mallards; I once saw a few in a nature reserve. But I didn't know about these ones; they certainly are beautiful birds.
