Horned Grebe

The Horned Grebe is the type of bird I don't really encounter along the rivers in Calgary. It is typically somewhere in a large natural park like Fish Creek, or in this case, Nose Hill, that I find them. They prefer lakes and ponds generally, and it is a bird that spends its summers in Canada when it is warm, and it is also known to typically breed here as well before migrating south to warmer climates for the winter months. They will also transition to a subdued gray and white in the winter, so it is a treat to see their colors here in the summer.
