I always considered butterflies to be artistic little creatures. Their patterns stand out and typically don't really blend into their surroundings. That being said, they can be hard to catch sitting still at times, so waiting until they are more docile, such as on really hot days or early mornings and evenings, is when they won't be so quick to fly away. Getting up close to these beautiful little insects was the best way to really capture their details. I used a 40mm macro lens, which allows me to get within a few inches of the subject. Being this close though, it is important to approach slowly and remain calm so that you don't startle them away with sudden movements.
