Butterflies and Caterpillars

In the butterfly enclosure at the Calgary Zoo, you can see every stage of the lifecycle of these majestic little creatures. Caterpillars will crawl around the leaves, munching them and growing stronger until they are ready to create a cocoon in which they will stay for anywhere from 5 to 21 days. After that they will start to break through and show their wings, eventually emerging as a fully grown butterfly.
