African Spoonbill at the Calgary Zoo

Named for their spoon-shaped bill, the African Spoonbill will move their bill back and forth as they wade in the water, hoping to snap up something to snack on or perhaps their next meal. This bird is a carnivore, primarily feeding on aquatic invertebrates, insects, and fish. They are known to reside in the marshes, rivers, and lakes of sub-Saharan Africa. This one seemed to like climbing around in the trees, using its beak to scan the branches.
