Rough-legged Hawk

A very interesting bird to view close up, this was at the Calgary Zoo and there is part of a bird where you can walk through. This hawk was sitting on the ground, casually observing all who passed by. Rough-legged hawks are raptors that inhabit northern regions across North America, Europe, and Asia. Their name stems from their feathered legs, a distinguishing feature among hawks. These hawks are well-adapted to cold climates, often migrating to southern areas during the winter. They have a distinctive appearance, with a pale head and dark markings on their body, along with a white underside adorned with dark streaks.
