Stadshuset in Stockholm, Sweden

Stockholm T-Centralen Station

Stockholm Central Station has night and express trains from there to all parts of Sweden. I remember with fond memories that my sambo and I used to leave from this station for Kiruna, a city in northern Sweden.

Seeing such a large station like this reminds me of many memories. When I was a student, I traveled alone for a month on what is now called a backpacker trip. I remember sleeping on a bench in a big station like this one, using my backpack as a pillow.

The trip began with a ride on Amtrak from Chicago's Central Station, which was similar to this Stockholm Central Station with lots of long benches. The train trip was really time-consuming, but I could recall the process of the trip very vividly, and I feel that I made some good memories that are different from those made by traveling by plane.

It was a weekend and I decided to have a fika with a friend in the city and then explore the town afterwards.

Stockholm City Hall (Stockhomstadhuset) is where the Nobel Prize banquet is held, and I went there with my mother when she came to Sweden for sightseeing. This year, 2023, seems to be exactly 100 years since the construction of the City Hall, and there seemed to be various events being held there.

Sweden is a beautiful water city consisting of an archipelago. It is often described as being like Venice, but I have never been to Venice, so I think Stockholm is uniquely beautiful. Stockholm in summer is the best, not too hot and not sweaty, but dry and fresh.

It seems that a friend of mine recently performed a wedding ceremony and signed a marriage certificate. It seems that the ceremony was held at the Stockholm City Hall, which is a stately and beautiful building that is perfect for creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Tourists from all over the world also visited the site, perhaps having heard that it was the place where the Nobel Prize dinner was to be held. I heard languages I had never heard before, and I was very happy to think that tourism had resumed after the Corona disaster, and I felt that I would like to travel somewhere abroad again. I would like to go back to Japan after visiting my friend who lives in Europe, whom I could not visit because of the Corona disaster.

ストックホルム中央駅はそこからスウェーデン全土に向けての夜間列車や特急列車などが出ています。わたしもサンボと一緒に昔、スウェーデン北部にあるキルナ市（Kiruna）に向けてこの駅から出発したのを懐かしく覚えています。

この様な大きな駅を見るといろいろな思い出を思い出します。学生時代に行った一人旅は今でいうバックバックの旅を１か月行いました。大きな駅ではバックバックを枕替わりにこの様な大きな駅のベンチで寝たのを覚えています。

シカゴの中央駅からアムトラックに乗って始まった旅ですが、このストックホルム中央駅に似ていて長いベンチがたくさんある駅でした。電車の旅は本当に時間がかかるのですが、その旅の工程をすごく鮮明に思い出すことが出来て、飛行機での旅とはまた違った良い思い出が出来たなと感じています。

この日は週末で、市内で友人とフィーカをしてからその後は町を散策することにした。

ストックホルム市庁舎（Stockhomstadhuset）はノーベル賞の晩餐会が開催される場所で、母がスウェーデンに観光に来た際も一緒に行った。今年、２０２３年は市庁舎が建設されてちょうど１００年の節目の様で、色々なイベントが開催されているようだった。

スウェーデンは群島で構成されている美しい水の都市です。ベニスの様だと形容されるようですが、わたしはベニスに行ったことが無いのでストックホルムが無二の美しさを持っていると思っています。夏のストックホルムは最高で、暑すぎずそして汗もかかない乾燥した清々しい夏です。

最近、友人が結婚式を行って結婚証書に署名をしたようです。その式を行ったのもこのストックホルム市庁舎だったようで、一生の思い出を作るにはふさわしい風格と美しさを備えた建物です。

世界中の観光客もノーベル賞の晩餐会を行う場所と聞いてか、多くの人が訪れていました。今まで聞いたことが無いような言語も耳にして、コロナ禍が終わって観光も再開したのかなぁと思うとすごく嬉しくなり、わたしもどこか海外旅行にまた行ってみたいなぁと感じました。コロナ禍で行けなかった、欧州に住んでいる友人に会いに行ってから日本には帰ろうと思います。
