I hope you’re doing fine today. I just felt like sharing something simple and personal with you all. It’s not a story about some grand event or adventure, just a quiet and beautiful moment that reminded me why being part of a community matters.

So this morning I attended Mass with the Nigerian Federation of Catholic Students, better known as NFCS. For those who may not know, NFCS is a Catholic student fellowship that brings together students from different departments and levels. It’s more than just religion, honestly. It is a place where we find spiritual support, friendship, and a break from the noise and pressure of academic life.

What made today’s Mass special was that it was student animated. That means students did almost everything. From the readings to the choir to the ushers to the altar servers. Everything was handled by us. There was this unique energy that filled the chapel. You could feel how much love and effort went into preparing for the Mass.

The choir especially made it memorable. I don’t know if it’s just me but whenever they sing, it feels like a prayer wrapped in melody. The voices were not just sweet, they were sincere. You could tell they were singing from the heart. During the communion hymn, I felt something deep. I just closed my eyes and let it sink in. It was a kind of peace I did not know I needed.

The homily was simple but powerful. The chaplain spoke like someone who understood exactly what we go through as students. He talked about how easy it is to lose focus when school stress piles up, how the noise of the world can drown out God’s voice. But he also reminded us that just being here today, choosing to come to Mass, is already a step toward God. That really got to me. With all the deadlines and assignments recently, I had not even taken a moment to breathe, let alone pray.

After Mass, we did what students do best. We took pictures. And not just one or two. We took a lot. By the chapel steps, under the trees, in groups, solo shots. People were smiling wide, fixing their outfits, helping each other with poses. It was simple fun but also very wholesome. Just being with people who share the same faith, the same space, and the same journey felt really good.

Looking around, I realized again that these small moments matter. We do not always need to wait for a big retreat or conference to feel connected to our faith or to each other. A Sunday Mass like this, with friends and laughter and prayers, can be just as powerful.

And that’s the thing about being part of NFCS. It gives you a place to be yourself. Not just a student chasing grades or struggling through school but a young person trying to hold onto something meaningful.

There’s something about singing together, praying together, and just showing up that builds community in the quietest way. We didn’t need much today. No expensive decoration. No famous guest speaker. Just students coming together and making it happen.

I left that Mass feeling better. I didn’t even know I was carrying so much tension inside me until it lifted. Maybe that’s what grace feels like. A kind of soft release.

So if you’re a student, especially if you’re feeling like you’ve been running on empty, I encourage you to try something like this. Join a fellowship. Attend a Mass. Be part of a group like NFCS. Even if you are not Catholic, just being around people who believe in something deeper can help you find your own peace.

Un Domingo Bendecido con la NFCS y una Misa Animada por Estudiantes

Espero que estén bien hoy. Quiero contarles algo muy simple pero especial que viví esta mañana. No es una historia de grandes aventuras ni nada por el estilo. Es solo un momento bonito que me recordó lo valioso que es formar parte de una comunidad.

Hoy fui a misa con la Federación Nigeriana de Estudiantes Católicos, conocida como NFCS. Para quienes no la conocen, la NFCS es una comunidad de estudiantes católicos presente en muchas universidades. Pero sinceramente, es más que solo religión. Es un espacio donde encontramos apoyo espiritual, amistad y un descanso de todo el estrés de la vida universitaria.

Lo que hizo especial la misa de hoy fue que fue animada por nosotros mismos, los estudiantes. Todo fue hecho por jóvenes como yo. Las lecturas, el coro, los ujieres, los monaguillos. Todo salió de nuestras manos. Y se sentía una energía distinta en la capilla. Una mezcla de entusiasmo, fe y juventud.

El coro fue increíble. No sé si soy el único que lo siente así, pero cuando cantan, es como si estuvieran orando con música. Las voces no solo eran bonitas, también eran sinceras. Se notaba que cantaban desde el corazón. Durante el canto de comunión, cerré los ojos y me dejé llevar. Sentí una paz que no sabía que necesitaba.

La homilía también fue muy especial. El capellán habló de manera muy cercana, como si conociera exactamente las luchas que vivimos como estudiantes. Dijo que es fácil perder el enfoque con tanta presión académica y con todo el ruido del mundo. Pero también nos recordó que estar en misa ya es un paso hacia Dios. Y eso me llegó al alma. Con tantas tareas y estrés, no había tomado ni un momento para orar o simplemente respirar.

Después de la misa, hicimos lo que mejor sabemos hacer. Tomamos fotos. Muchas fotos. En las escaleras de la capilla, bajo los árboles, en grupo, en solitario. Las sonrisas eran genuinas. Algunos arreglaban su ropa, otros ayudaban con las poses. Fue divertido pero también muy bonito. Estar entre personas que comparten la misma fe, el mismo ambiente y las mismas luchas me hizo sentir agradecido.

Y es ahí donde me di cuenta que no siempre necesitamos grandes eventos para sentirnos conectados con Dios o con los demás. A veces una misa dominical, entre amigos, con cantos y oraciones, es más que suficiente.

Eso es lo que más me gusta de la NFCS. Me da un lugar donde puedo ser yo mismo. No solo un estudiante tratando de aprobar materias, sino una persona joven que busca algo más profundo.

Orar juntos, cantar juntos, simplemente estar ahí, construye una comunidad sin mucho ruido. No necesitamos grandes decoraciones ni eventos costosos. Solo personas dispuestas a estar presentes.

Salí de esa misa más ligero. No sabía cuánta tensión llevaba dentro hasta que se fue. Quizás eso es la gracia. Algo que no se ve pero se siente.

Si eres estudiante y te sientes agotado o un poco perdido, te animo a probar algo así. Únete a un grupo. Participa en una misa. Acércate a una comunidad como la NFCS. No importa si no eres católico. Solo estar cerca de personas que creen en algo más grande puede ayudarte a encontrar tu propia paz.

Gracias por leerme. Quería compartir esto no porque sea algo espectacular, sino porque se sintió real y necesario. A veces eso es suficiente. La vida no siempre se trata de cosas grandes. A veces se trata solo de unas horas en una mañana de domingo que te recuerdan quién eres.
