Echoes of Forgotten Time

There is a quality to these photos that gives one pause and puts you in mind of the stories old places hold. One gets the sense that every wall, every carved feature or wooden door has been a quiet witness to the world’s changes over the years.
You see some of it standing with a certain pride and beauty, and other bits yielding back to nature with memories too far gone for anyone to recall. In black and white, the images have a timeless way of letting the shadows and textures do the talking. It is easy to feel as though I am moving through time rather than merely touring an old structure.
I find myself asking who put their hands to these fine designs, what sort of life was lived here in days of yore, and who passed through on the other side of those doors. The silence of the place today does not diminish its presence; you can feel it with each step. They are weathered enough, but they still have something to put across.
These photographs are a reminder that history is not confined to the written word. It is found in the quiet dignity of a forgotten building or a worn door. Looking at them, I am drawn to the past and left with the feeling that there is a story to be had in every location, even if there is no one around to tell it.
