Doors of Narbonne

IMG_20240208_123310.jpg

Yesterday, when I saw the post of @leaky20 showcasing 13 unique doors I remembered one city in France and its doors. It was a clear reminder that I should find the photos of the doors I made there while we strolled through the historic centre and searched for dinner.

Narbonne has a huge, beautiful but ancient cathedral (you can take a look here if interested to see it). There you can find also the Palace of the Archbishops, the Roman Granary Museum, the replica of the Capitoline Wolf, cobblestone streets, old buildings and of course, doors. Many of them.

I don't know why they caught my attention and I started to take pictures of them. They were not special; they were not lavishly decorated, nor the facades of the buildings seemed very important. Well, some of them yes, but it was mainly in those smaller side streets where I made this collection of photos of doors.

The majority of them are double wooden doors, but also simple ones, like this yellow entrance to the house of friends. Is it the right translation from la maison des potes?

IMG_20240208_122951.jpg

I also loved this thin white door, probably the entrance of a boutique. There was a shop window, with women's dresses and shoes.

IMG_20240208_122421.jpg

When I was sorting out the photos this morning, between two painkillers and sleeping, I saw a bit annoying pattern. Why were most of the doors I took a picture of on sloping streets? 😩

Straight lines, symmetry... I could forget about it. Though I tried my best to align them.

Maybe I could do just one category of this collection - sloping street doors? 😂

You see, like this one.

IMG_20240208_085517.jpg

Hmm... no. They will be categorized by their colour. So, two main categories - blue and brown.
Oh, and one green door. Actually, there are two and a half doors in this narrow facade.
Additional gem - an empty bottle of beer.

We see that the facades of some of these buildings are decorated. Did you notice the musical instruments above one door? That was one of my favourites. And the building of the first wide wooden door must be very old, the decoration in the centre was unfortunately damaged or hidden on purpose. Some very simple examples and facades also found their place in this collection.

The blue ones won in number!

From this section, my favourite door is the penultimate one. It seems that it was repaired, with wood the owners (or the person who fixed it) had, without taking care a lot about the appearance. At least it was later painted with the same colour. It is a survivor!

mipiano_banners_strip_gimp.png

All the doors lead somewhere... They are entrances to homes, buildings of other purposes, shops, churches, schools... but what about doors that lead nowhere? What if they are bricked up?

I don't know if they still count as doors, but they are here to make part of this little collection of Narbonne's doors. In sloping streets! 😉

The post which inspired me, and where you can see really nice doors can be seen here.

That's a beautiful collection!

Hello friend, this is a very beautiful and at the same time interesting collection, since one never imagines that one has to go through so many doors on a daily basis and it is fascinating how each of those doors has its design and history. In addition, the blue ones are very elegant and allow them to be very striking from a distance, is that paint? The wooden ones are also very pretty and here where I live you can see many wooden ones, mostly white because of the theme. condominium and it is a rule. Sin. Doubt doors are essential for everything and without them that privacy could not exist. Very nice photos, friend.

Thank you @davidpena21, we pass by many doors every day, that is true, it is that we don't pay attention always to them. Maybe we should, they can tell stories 🙂

I have always liked the construction details of ancient monuments such as churches and castles, soon I will show you several monuments that I have made in models. Without a doubt, among the most impressive details of ancient buildings are the doors and windows, which are true works of art. Thank you for showing us those doors, I think the cabinetmaker who designed them took into account what was really going to work in that building.

Windows and doors give character to those ancient buildings. Like someone in the comments said, they are like spiritual gateways to the houses!

You have done something that fascinates me: photographing doors. I will spend a long time looking at them because they are all beautiful in their own way and behind them there is always a lot to tell. Also imagine how many people have knocked on those doors with news, different moods, or simply arriving and sliding the key into the lock to open them is a relief. Slamming doors, anger, probably too.
The bricked-up door is brought down with something forceful. Or you just leave it like that. If that's a house I imagine it's a rather ugly architectural solution, hahaha... to gain space inside the house. Or maybe convert that room that had doors to the street into something else private.

Yes, probably many different moods, situations and stories that went through these doors during all these years. There were some really old ones. I suppose the door with the musical instruments above it could be the door of some musician, who knows? 🎶

Haha, yeah, but we can't be sure that Dr Marie-Ange Mignard lived there since 1767. Maybe some of her ancestors healed with music, that can be the case 😉

I love those doors, but it would be wrong to admire them without taking into account all the facade elements around them.... for many years I used those architectural elements as inspiration for my sculptural work... thank you for showing us those beautiful images...

They are indeed an inseparable part of the facade, making an impression or image as a whole on the passers-by.

First of all, congratulations because it is a great collection of doors. All very interesting. The streets are sloping but the doors are all very well aligned. And with very nice designs. As I always tell you I have to learn a lot from you. It's amazing the power you have to capture amazing things. What will you continue to surprise us with. Thank you for sharing these wonders with us. 🥰❤️❤️

Hello @mamani

Thank you for your encouraging comment. But you know, I already told you that we all learn from one another, so I am also looking forward to seeing some of your next posts. We were educated in a way that we can learn from older (than us) and wiser people, so another reason you can maybe write and post something these days so we can also see the wonders you show us ☀️

Hugs 🤗

It took me a while to find those musical instruments, but I got them!

I wouldn't mind if the last one would lead to my own house 😁

You reminded me that I have a similar collection from Sardinia that I forgot to post, maybe I should do it now 😊

Have a lovely weekend!

Excellent collection, it brought back memories of Barcelona, capital of my state and the state of Nueva Esparta, I have always liked to admire the old places, walk the narrow stone streets and observe those big doors and windows, it brings me peace and takes me back to the past, it seems that at some point I lived in that time. Thank you for sharing your photos and showing us France in a few minutes.

Hello. All your photos are very beautiful. The doors reflect the creativity and detailed work of a carpenter. It is that part that begins a property and must be in harmony with the type of external façade of the property.
In my country they are sometimes made of iron with glass, but nothing is more elegant than a wooden door. In your photos, many of them are painted blue; that reminds me of Santorini, where that color contrasts with the white of the walls. Thank you for showing us a collection of doors through your photos. Greetings

Thank you @abrunet. The fact that the house I lived in also had a double wooden door made me pay attention to them, but there were also different doors, like you say - from iron and glass. :))

This is a very inspiring post, because I am fascinated by doors although it would never have occurred to me to make an exclusive publication about them.

There is every story that accompanies the doors, and the mind flies imagining that glorious past that the structures where those various doors were located lived.

Maybe I'll be encouraged to make my own post about the doors in my town.
