Creating Space

Today, I found myself cussin' the weather, because one minute it's overcast and gloomy, and the next minute it has sunbeams, yet it's freakin' cold. Yeah, I know that it's the UK and normal, but I found it frustrating because I was eager to do some yoga, and with limited space on my narrowboat, I'm forced to do my yoga sessions outdoors.

Still, I take into consideration that it's between seasons and is expected at this time of the year when we still have the tail end of winter.
I'm eagerly looking forward to brighter spring days, and I've given myself a head start by altering my sleeping and rising hours, as my goal is to get back into a daily routine of sunrise and sunset yoga.

4.jpg Setting up and testing my camera for what I thought was going to be a great yoga and photography session.

This pontoon leading to my boat is sturdy and stationary, making it one of the most viable options for yoga. Due to its narrow width, I have been moderating some of the asanas (movements) with much success and extra focus to avoid falling.

While I was filling up my water tank, I was excited about the golden hues of the sunset, and I anticipated capturing some stunning shots. However, some cold, biting wind blew my way, which made me hesitant, but I didn't want to forego the yoga session and thought that I could persevere.

5.jpg Headless—I was just not on my mark.

I could have carried on, but I decided to let the day go by instead of forcing it. The cold was far too unbearable; I felt miserable, and I followed all the signs and packed up.

It felt like an off day, and I didn't want to risk my tripod or, worse, me falling off into the canal today.

I think we have to know when to let things go and reschedule them for a more appropriate time. I recognised that there was no harm in having a day without yoga, despite my personal goals.

Strangely, this accidental photo, which turned out alright, salvaged the day. I was so pleased with the natural light from my window that I edited it in both colour and black and white.

The irony of all this is that yoga is all about creating space in the body and the mind, being adaptable, and finding solutions in every aspect of our lives.
There is more rain with cold temperatures predicted over the next few days, but I'll continue to be creative and alternate between exercising on the pontoon and the top of the boat. If all fails, I might practice some photography, as today was the first time in ages that I charged my camera and set up my gear.

Have you been doing anything new; picked up an old hobby lately, or resumed an exercise routine?
I'd love to hear your stories.

Thanks for stopping by, peeps:)

Doing yoga is very exciting, every day I practice it at home, even not wanting to get out of bed, I use it as my mat, my passion for yoga is so great, that sometimes I forget that I am 71 years old and I must do yoga, well, in any case I do it very gently, starting with my position to meditate. @millycf1976 I like your publication. I wish you from Venezuela a lot of success personally and in Hive.

Your comment is inspiring.
Kudos to you for doing yoga at 71 years old. It's a good testament that yoga is for all ages.
Have a lovely weekend ahead:)

I really don't do yoga, but sometimes I do a lightweight gym to to keep fit. It lovely you still do this to keep your posture. Good one.

A lightweight gym workout is excellent; It's easy on the muscles and joints, so keep it up!

I hope that soon the weather will allow you to do yoga. I just imagine that inside the boat you don't have space to do it or you just prefer to do it outdoors, I think about it and at the same time I ask hahaha.

A few years ago I was going to an institute for yoga classes, although my main motivation was pilates sometimes I would take advantage of the trip and go into the yoga class. During the pandemic I started doing yoga at home but soon got seriously ill to the point that to this day I have to take very good care of every movement of my body, however, it is something I can do and for sure it can help my recovery, now I wonder why I left it aside totally. 🤔

I love Pilates too and find them to be both beneficial.

yoga at home but soon got seriously ill to the point that to this day I have to take very good care of every movement of my body

I get that. When doing yoga, it's important to do slow, controlled movements to avoid any sudden jolts on the body, as that could harm the muscles and joints.
I hope that you'll be able to get back into a yoga routine with the directions of an experienced teacher.

I have plans to follow some Pilates routines online because Pilates is a safe and effective way of strengthening and toning the body.
Best wishes for your exercises and well-being:)

as that could harm the muscles and joints.

That's a serious problem, some people can't even imagine.

I hope you get a good Pilates routine that will help you achieve as many benefits as possible and that the weather helps you get out to do yoga.

Thank you very much for your good wishes. 🤗

Happy weekend!

Hi Milly!
We haven't spoken in a long time, how's it going?

Don't tell me about the weather here, it's really unbearable, one hour it feels like summer and after a while it's raining, you can't understand anything.
There's a proverb in my city that says: Crazy March, the sun comes out, take an umbrella!

I hug you!

Hey there, thank you 😊
I'm doing well!
It's been a while since I've seen you on the blockchain, indeed! Welcome back to the blocking world.

Yeah, the weather is mental. It's a bright morning today, but the wind bites to the bones.
I like that proverb.

Have a lovely weekend:)))

I love that you do yoga and stick to your routine even when the weather is very uncomfortable.

I love to do yoga but in my room, and not every day, so I really admire your resilience.

You are beautiful 💝

Hi Milly!!
Sorry the weather didn't turn out favourably for you, but look at that amazing picture! A beautiful mistake I should call it.

And yeah, I did restart my home workout routine recently. The discipline you need to make this thing work is something I'm trying so hard to cultivate and while it's hard, I'm determined to give it my all.

Thank you, Jhymi 😊

As long as you're doing something to get your heart pumping and blood circulating, that's excellent.
It's hard to fit exercise into our busy schedule sometimes, so appreciate and feel good about yourself when you do. However, do not dwell on the days when you don't get to do it, otherwise, you cultivate negative thoughts, which might psychologically prevent you from getting into a routine.
I have all the confidence that you will:)))

However, do not dwell on the days when you don't get to do it,

I really love that you said this cause the few times when I just can't, I berate myself so much for not doing it.
But I'll work on giving my best but at the same time knowing when to rest. Thank you, Milly. 🥰❤️

I hope you're having a pleasant weekend.

Great Pictures 💖 wanted to start something like a morning Qui Gong Routine, but than I got lost inbetween too many useless YouTube videos for beginners, no one really seems to explain about the deeper meaning of the movementes . Also struggeld with wich one.. Qui Gong... Tai Chi... Also found Yiquan 😯🤷‍♀️🙈😅
As for outdoors, it seems I cannot deeply contemplate when possibly someone could watch me. Crazy me 😘

Oh, you know that I do Qi Gong, right?
When I first started, I was confused too. The thing is, there are 100s of different kinds of Qi Gong.
I would suggest that you try the Eight Silk Brocades.

However, you'll see that all the movements are fundamentally the same, with some variations. What I've found is that the variations rely on the different levels of fitness and probably the region.

However, I was introduced to Wudang Five Animal Qigong, which is my favourite. Again, these movements are different from the White Tiger Five Animal Qigong.

Here is a link to the movements of the five animals. This is an advanced master demonstration, hence his incredible fitness level.

The idea is to do these movements daily to master them and open up the body.

Some variations and videos break these movements down more:

Wow thank you, I think this brought me a little understanding, at least what to look for. And the Eight Silk Brocades seem to be what I was searching for. The first video is perfect to start with 😍 seems she has also written a good book available in my language
Thank you 🙏😘

My pleasure! Mimi Kuo-Deemer is popular on IG and she offers courses, so I wouldn't be surprised if she has a book.

Wudang Eight Brocades and Wudand Five Animal are easy to follow, and they have many videos on YouTube with classes of various levels, and the instructions are easy to follow.

Good luck with it 🤗😘

It's the black and white picture for me. Being rigid with life can give us temporary satisfaction but can cause devastating consequences. It's wise to know when to be flexible about life. Sometimes, doing things out of the norms brings a spark to our living.

I hope the weather gets better though.

Have a good weekend

Spring weather is so unpredictable. We had 20+ °C for a week or two and now we are into a snow storm with a few centimeters of snow..🙄

Too bad that yoga didn't work out. That's a neat spot for it between the boats. Glad the tripod didn't get blown into the water

Great photo! Turned out really nice.

Thank you 😊

It took me a long time to comprehend and appreciate spring because it is unpredictable, but I'm happy that we are not experiencing snow though.
I hope you'll soon have fresh flowers in your garden, for your well-being.

Yes, I was disappointed yesterday because my yoga sessions had been going so well on the pontoon, but I didn't fancy cryotherapy in murky waters. Yes, I would cry and require therapy.🙃

That was a week or two ago and yesterday they were buried under snow 😆

Haha!😆 I bet they are. I zoomed in on them. They are beautiful and it must have been a welcoming change, until the snow came.
Today we had strong hale, and I wouldn't be surprised if it snows lightly before we get real spring.

I love that photo! Esp in B&W. It's like an old movie star type look. Really arresting. <3

And yay for finding space for yoga, albeit rocky. I'd probably drop into the canal ten times xD

Yeah, the space has been working out great, and I'm extra careful not to fall in 😆

I miss the sunrise and sunset sessions we used to have. I can't imagine being able to do yoga on that narrow ledge between the boats, and the idea of falling into the canal sounds scary and cold! Hope you get better weather soon.

Oh, the glory days 😍

The weather is confusing, one minute I'm adding layers and the next minute I'm hot and need to take them off.

The idea of falling into the canal sounds scary and cold!

Haha, I'm not that keen on going in the beautiful tropical sea, so definitely not this murky canal water. 😏

Hopefully, we'll be on the move soon and I'll be able to do yoga on the footpath:)

Okay, it is your second look that got me 😂😂. The glass on you is great, and the way you stood with the statement made, I'm eagerly looking forward, just made my day.

Truly, there are times we should let things go and reschedule. And I am glad you saw the need to do that.
