Each child is a universe and as long as we have that clear we know that although all go through similar processes does not mean that the experience for them, as for us as parents is equal to that of another family and that's fine, there are children who have left diapers at year 1 others at two 2 and others later and that's fine is the decision of the parents, even the child too.

If you ask me what age I consider ideal for my daughters to stop diapering I will answer at 2 years of age, I know there are mommies who will tell me my daughter stopped diapering at 1 year old and that is fine too, however I feel that younger than 2 years old children do not manage their sphincter well and the process can be long and if parents are not patient it can be traumatic and stressful for the child.

My little girl turned 2 years old in January so it was time to make the transition from diapers to conventional underwear, so the first thing was to buy clothes that were cotton, that would not generate allergic relations due to friction and more that we live in a coastal area and heat is an element to take into account when we buy clothes, the second is that they were comfortable and would not be tight because it would be easier for her when she will use the potty the fact of lowering and raising her underwear.

Third, placing the potty in the bathroom works because children imitate their parents and in her case she also imitates her older sister of four 4 years old, so when I went to the bathroom I took her with me and sat her down or when her sister went, I took them both, with my older daughter this transition took about 3 weeks, with my younger daughter it took 4 days it was quite fast but that is because she watches her older sister a lot and imitates her and that made the process easier.

You may ask me why didn't you make the transition before? The answer is because something that I take into account is the management of the sphincter, that is, the ability to pee and poop and to have the ability to recognize what he wants to do, to warn him and of course to hold it until he gets to the potty, I have to recognize when she wants to do it and what she wants to do, there are several factors, so since she was 1 year old I have been teaching her to let me know when she does 💩 so I can change her diaper, on my side I am always attentive to the signals she makes, for example, when she wants to pee I see when she wants to pee, when she wants to pee I see that she puts her hands on her parts, while when she wants to pee she stays still, quietly, turns red and bends slightly, these are her signals and they are my ways to identify if she does not let me know, so I am attentive (communication is not always verbal) especially on training days, these signals help to make the transition more bearable and not all the time it is a disaster the house with pee or poop everywhere.

What was easier for her ? Learning to make pupi in her potty only 1 time in her 4 days of transition did not come and another time I saw her with a face to do and I took her literally running and the other days I was surprised to find the potty with Pupi, although if I must be attentive to clean it, Thank God it was like that because it is more bearable to clean pee than poop 🫣 with the issue of pee if I get to do several times in the living room, kitchen or room but it is easier to clean and every time that happened, she cried, she was scared or was disgusted, but one explains, takes her to the potty and cleans it so she learned quickly.

Now if you ask me how I realized that Amanda already manages her sphincter, well, it's simple when I put on her conventional underwear when she took her 1 hour nap she didn't pee anymore, she did it when she got up, so her transition from diaper to underwear was a success, she's been in it for a month now, We still have diapers at home because at night she doesn't get up at night because she sleeps for more hours and she still doesn't wake up and she doesn't tell us that she will pee, so she still uses diapers to sleep, her sister stopped using them at night at 2 years and 6 months, possibly this will be the case with Amanda, although it is something that will be seen in time.
