Trip to Rasiglia / Viaggio a Rasiglia (Umbria, Italy) [ENG/ITA]
Hello all hive community, today I want to tell you about a splendid Italian village in Umbria: Rasiglia.
I happened upon Rasiglia by pure chance: invited by friends to spend a few days in Preci, in central Italy, in the various tours we took, we also went to see, precisely, Rasiglia.
The town, historical background
Located at an elevation of 650 m above sea level in the Umbrian Apennines, it is also called the "Borgo dei Ruscelli" or "Venice of Umbria." These appellations are due to the fact that the small town in the municipality of Foligno is crossed by the Menotre River, which winds its way through the village thanks to man-made works.
Given its availability of 0-cost energy, it had become a thriving industrialized town, especially textiles.
These waterways could offer the possibility of harnessing spoon mills, which through their movement transferred energy to the looms.
Wheat grinding mills were also present.
Obviously these types of mills are not visible from the outside, but are located in the underneath part of the buildings.

Ciao a tutti comunità di hive, oggi voglio parlarvi di uno spendido paesino italiano in Umbria: Rasiglia.
Sono capitato a Rasiglia per puro caso: invitato da degli amici a passare alcuni giorni a Preci, nel centro Italia, nei vari giri che abbiamo fatto, siamo anche andati a vedere, appunto, Rasiglia.
La città, cenni storici
Situato ad una altezza di 650 m s.l.m. negli appennini Umbri, viene anche chiamato il “Borgo dei Ruscelli” o “Venezia dell’Umbria”. Questi appellativi sono dovuti al fatto che il piccolo centro abitato del comune di Foligno è attraversato dal fiume Menotre che si snoda all’interno del paesino grazie ad opere dell’uomo.
Data la sua disponibilità di energia a costo 0, era diventata una fiorente cittadina industrializzata, soprattutto tessile.
Questi corsi d’acqua potevano offrire la possibilità di sfruttare dei mulini a cucchiaio che grazie al loro movimento trasferivano energia ai telai.
Erano presenti anche mulini per la macinatura del grano.
Ovviamente queste tipologie di mulini non sono visibili all’esterno, ma sono posizionati nella parte sottostante degli edifici.

Hydraulic works
As I explained just above, as the type of mills used spoon, they need hydraulic works to conduct the water to certain positions and with the right pressure in order to transform the kinetic energy of the water hitting the mill blades into rotary motion.
As we can see from the photos these works are very old, in fact they date back, on average to the 13th century. Obviously all the iron mechanisms have been maintained to prevent rust from affecting their integrity and functionality in the present day.
Opere idrauliche
Come spiegavo poco sopra, essendo la tipologia dei mulini utilizzati a cucchiaio, hanno bisogno di opere idrauliche per condurre l’acqua in determinate posizioni e con la giusta pressione, per poter trasformare l’energia cinetica dell’acqua che colpisce le pale del mulino in moto rotatorio.
Come possiamo vedere dalle foto queste opere sono molto vecchie, infatti risalgono, mediamente al XIII secolo. Ovviamente tutti i meccanismi in ferro sono stati manutenuti per evitare che la ruggine ne compromettesse l’integrità e la funzionalità ai giorni nostri.

This atmosphere made the ride even more impressive!
The springs
Another characteristic feature of this small town are the springs. Besides the Menotre River, which provides most of the water in the village, there are also natural springs:
- Capovena, in the upper part of the village of Rasiglia. The water springs from a rock in a cave;
- Alzabove, which springs below Mount Carosale that serves to supply the aqueduct of the Southern Umbra Valley
- Venarella, in front of the Rasiglia sports field, serves to feed the aqueduct for Verchiaro
- Le Vene, in the locality of Chieve
- The Lousy Vein, in the locality of Pallailla
- Le Vene di Campolungo, in the Volperino ditch.
Now I don't remember which of the above springs it is, but I was able to take a picture of it; unfortunately, I couldn't capture the air bubbles that occasionally come out.
Se avete notato, nelle fotografie si vedono delle macchioline bianche: si, avete capito, stava nevicando!
Questa atmosfera ha reso ancora più suggestivo il giro!
Le sorgenti
Un altro tratto caratteristico di questo paesino sono le sorgenti. Oltre al fiume Menotre che fornisce la maggior parte dell’acqua presente nel paesino, ci sono anche delle sorgenti naturali:
-Capovena, nella parte alte dell’abitato di Rasiglia. L’acqua sgorga da una roccia in una grotta;
-Alzabove, che nasce sotto al monte Carosale che serve ad alimentare l’acquedotto della Valle Umbra Sud
-Venarella, di fronte al campo sportivo di Rasiglia, serve ad alimentare l’acquedotto per Verchiaro
-Le Vene, in località Chieve
-La Vena Pidocchiosa, in località Pallailla
-Le Vene di Campolungo, nel fosso di Volperino
Ora non ricordo quale sia delle suelencate sorgenti, ma ne sono riuscito a fare la foto; purtroppo non sono riuscito a immortalare le bolle d’aria che ogni tanto escono.
